i want to cut some vents into my hood for my track car. i want to make them look clean and not sharks teeth. what is the best way to do that so that it doesnt rust over time either?

i was thinking of using an air cutting wheel to make the rectangle holes. but what after that? i was also going to get a friend to weld them in at a 45 degree angle so that it looked like a d-drug hood.

thanks for input.

Why not just cut out a square hole and buy the URAS vent or one like the URAS vent and put it on your hood?

Much easier that way.

i looked on uras-usa.com and didnt see any hoods or hood inserts for sale.
the main reason is because i dont have money to buy a hood or insert. so if i can cut one that would be better and if it turns out like shit. then i can just go to the junk yard and get a new one for next to nothing.

You might be interested in the old "drop vent" add on. It was pretty easy to find just the FRP vent portion in Japan back in the day, but since then most people opted for FRP or CFRP full replacement vented hoods.

If you're goal is extra cooling with the drop vent, dont forget that you need a raised leading edge to generate a pressure gradient to "pull" out hot air.

thats why i was going to get a friend of mine to weld in the pieces i cut out at a 45 degree angle. i dont like the one that the other guy posted after my op. the whole section makes it look like something you would buy from auto zone or something.

maybe i could get a hold of an insert from an evo and put that in??? just a thought.

Why don't you just gap the hinges like so:

Cause that doesn't work at speed. Only when sitting. You have a high pressure zone at the base of the windshield at speed.
