Brown fluid leaking down on to tranny...

...anybody have any idea what it could be or where its coming from. I really can't see where its leaking from and it doesn't seem to be coming from tannny. Its a golden brownish looking liquid thats gelled up over the top of tranny. My car has been idling high and shuddering pretty bad lately (iaa valve i hope) but i'm wondering if this leak has anything 2 do with it. By the way i have a 90 s13.

you should probably look at the rear of the engine it sounds like you have an oil leak..possible valve cover gasket or head gasket leaking. you can buy some stuff called oil dye, you put it in the oil drive for a couple 40 miles and hit it with a ultraviolet light and the oil leaking will glow a bright green. this way theres no guessing where its coming from

Thanks 4 the reply i'll check it out. I just didn't think oil hardened up like this and it managed to make its way pretty far back on the tranny. Thanks tho.
