Hey all... I went to put on new front KVR/Brembo crossdrilled rotors and KVR carbon kevlar pads on the 90 s13 (no abs). I've replaced pads before by removing the bolts that hold the caliper to the retainer clip (the part with the accordian boot around the bolt bore). That worked fine.

This time around, I took both those and the retainer bolts off (the bigger ones going into the strut mount or whatever). I slid the old rotors off once the calipers and pads were out of the way, installed the new ones, and tightened all the bolts back. The problem now is that the wheels are seized - they won't move. I got one to move slightly but not very well by loosening the accordian booted-bolts I mentioned earlier. It seems like the rotors aren't sitting evenly on the wheel hubs either.

What can I do to make everything mount nice and clean? Chiltons was too damn vague to be of any use.

Thanks!
Chase

did you push the caliper piston in?

When you say won't move do you mean when you try to drive it feels like your brakes are on or you can't move it by hand. Because if you can't move it by hand that is too be expected. Anyway I would love to help you out but I need a little more info.

What info I can give you is take everything back apart and put caliper (sp?) grease on everything (i.e. back of pads, retaining pins, etc. but not on the rotors of course) Check your work and make sure that the rotor is sitting flush on the hub and tourque everything to spec. Then you should be good to go:D

I haven't tried to drive it... I'm afraid to frankly. If I don't manage to get it feeling right, though, it may be the only option I have.

Just a hunch, but tell me if this gives you a shimmy in the steering wheel if you test drive it.

I test drove it... down my driveway and back up. Too seized. I took it back apart and put it back together, only this time i left out the side clips that are there to stop squealing or whatever. Amazingly, it works fine now, except for the fact I just discovered that I was sold ABS rotors for a non-abs car. I called KVR, they claim it shouldn't make a difference.

Sounds shady to me. Everywhere I have seen distinction between the two. But If you got it to work than good for you.

Edit: My spelling is shady

try "braking" the pads/rotors in (haha pun), driving without those shims/seats for a while... and when you've worn the brakes/rotors down a little bit, then take it all out and try putting it back together -with- those shims. It should fit this time. I imagine the ABS rotors are slightly thicker, which is why you probably couldn't turn it the first time 'round with the brake hardware in there.
