I have a considerable drive shaft vibration, mostly on deceleration. I have a DSS alu. 3" drive shaft w/ r32 vlsd. After getting under the car and inspecting the drive line I noticed that I was able to shift the ds from side to side slightly. I am pondering on two causes for the vibration. Help me out:
1. The output shaft from the trans has some slop in it. I'm thinking its not good, however I'm not 100% sure.
2. The drive shaft may be to short because of the r32 diff. When installing and removing the ds, I can slide it from front to back an 1", give or take. This results in less contact surface between the trans output shaft and the ds, via the two shafts don't fit as tight. Normal? - AbNormal?

Is it balanced correctly? im not familiar with the setup but does it have some type of carrier bearing that might be going out?

Check your u-joints if you can move it side to side. May as well do both at the same time so you only have to pull the driveshaft once.

I am assuming the drive shaft is balanced because there is a weight riveted to the side of the shaft. The u-joints are 100%.

Is the output shaft from the trans suppose to have any play in it?

That inch of slide you have is normal... how do your trans and motor mounts look? If it's an s14 there's bushings that hold your diff on IIRC, how to those and your subframe bushings look? I have my doubts that its the driveshaft itself, although the movement bothers me

try rotating the ds 180 degrees, that might help to reduce the vibration but if it doesn't, then go to the u joints..

if its not a 1 piece, then check the center bushing, its most likely the case.
