Does anyone know of any alternative to a speedometer? Speedometer wont work with the tranny i have for some reason. I was told when i bought the motor set from a friend/cousin that it was modified for shorter gears. They had the motor on a corolla before they sold it to my broher, which then sold it to me.

Speedometer has not been working since they had motor on their car, and my brothers car. My brother had a dohc cluster and a jdm cluster, both speedometer wont work. Everything but the speedometer works, so am going to ASSUME its because of the tranny.

Well, does anyone else have this problem or know of any alternative speedometer besides a GPS??? Maybe something like a g-tech that has a some built in speedometer?

That doesn't make sense, the VSS should still give a signal of some kind unless it's broken or doesn't exist. What kind of car, engine, transmission, etc. are we dealing with?

Well, the shop that sold the tranny to my cousins (Evolution motorsports in sacramento, ca) knew about the problem with the tranny but didnt know whats causing it, so they also gave them a stock tranny--speedometer works. It was a 10k swap six or seven years ago, s13 sr20det into a corolla and some other stuff. It was kind of a "track" car only, so they didnt really care for the speedometer either.

projectRDM, its a s13 sr20det blacktop. Transmission was modded for shorter gears (thats what they say, and thats what it seems when comparing the two tranny). VSS has been changed several times and nothing. Will work with the other tranny, but not with the tranny currently on the car right now.

Any alternative?

if your tranny isnt outputting a correct signal, then most aftermarket speedos arent gonna work either.

If you really want to, Autometer makes a speedometer for classics that do not use any form of electrical sensor.

It would be better to find out why you arent getting a signal (meaning you have to open up your tranny to see what was modified)

Still doesn't make sense. The VSS is driven off the output shaft, unless the shaft has been modified in some way that the gear is no longer there or moved then it wouldn't line up, but a modified box wouldn't alter that. Weird.

projectRDM: dont make sense to me either. Shaft has not been modified, except when the motor was in the corolla (custom one piece), other than that, all stock drive shafts. I honestly thought it would have been the vss even aftr my brother told me he tried changing it. In the end, he was right.

Teknolust72: Do you know what the autometer runs off of? I kind of been looking into some autometer speedometers but thought that it would also just hook up to speed sensor.

check your speed sensor wiring, check the power output, if its even getting power.

but, who needs speedometers anyway?

Buy my Motec and run a speed sensor to it or get a Stack cluster.

Your motec and Stack cluster is some ballin a$$ $hit. Ive have been looking at both of them, but its out of my budget, way out.
