I know, but someone tell me what i want to hear instead.

i put on some RTV on my thermostat housing at 6pm.
its now 11:48 and I want to bleed my cooling system so that I can drive the car tomorrow at 5:30 am to work.

So tell me its dry enough for me to do it and that I don' thave to wait 24 hours like the package suggests.

When I helped change the thermo on my friends SR, we waited like an hour for the RTV and then filled her up and ran the car and it hasn't leaked since.

Yeah, 1 hr is the usual wait time for me too.

but then again, you already bled the system and left for work.

Depends on the type of RTV.

I try to wait about 8 hours for perfect curing for the grey nissan OEM equivelent.

This insures a perfect seal when doing any sort of engine rebuild.

Uh oh...

lol... uh ohh is right. atleast wait 4 hours. to get curing.

Neme. i hope you didnt tighten the bolts all the way down yet. you shoulda tightened like 3/4 and wait to dry then re tighten to get best results.

rtv head gasket anyone? anyways if you have advance auto parts they sell rtv called the right stuff, its super black rtv so its good for thermostats and oil pains all the usual but it only takes like half and hour to cure, you gotta be good at it though cuz it sets in 1 minute. its great on race day

lol, this makes me wonder how much rtv I have floating around in my cooling system, clogging up coolant passages and whatnot.

I recommend the full 24 hour drying time to any of my customers...

But honestly, in a pinch, a few hours is usually ok, as long as your not taking it cross country.
