Ok, I just dropped my SR back in after putting in new pistons and rings. IT'S RUNNING LIKE A POOP!! I am only pushing 10psi (GT2871R) but it feels like NA!! The compression showed 130psi all around which is fine because I still need to break in the motor. I have adjusted the the timing mechanically according to the manual, but there is something more that needs to be done as far as setting the timing. I know that I need to use a timing gun to correct the timing with the CAS. If I am correct, I also need to disconnect the TPS in order to put the car in timing mode. Can anybody explain this in a clear way, because the info that I gathered from all kinds of sources just completely baffled mind. ANY HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED.

take a picture of your first cam lobes when timing

to get top dead center rotate your crank pulley with a 27mm socket. keep rotating until the first lobes on your cams face outward. intake side should be facing 9 oclock and exhaust is 3 oclock. now look at your main crank pulley again this should line up to the second dash mark. thats 15 degrees.

now your cams should be facing outward and the mark should be at 15 degrees.

after that put the sensor back in the way you had it the dots should line up.

keep only one bolt holding it in so you can move the sensor as needed. check with timing light mark the 15 degree mark on the pully with white out its the second dash btw. oh and you you dont need to disconnect the tps

let me know if that helped or just call me if you need help 908 425 3418 i hope you have ATT. lol

if that isnt clear enough

Alright I will definitely do that. But how do you know that your CAS needs to be adjusted? The car starts up fine....is that all there to it? And what about unhooking the TPS to make sure it's in timing mode. Well, here is the source on pg174 http://www.btyproductions.com/clawhammer/240/FSM/s14_sr20det.pdf Sorry, I'm a nub at this timing thing.

oh i edited the post.

well once your car starts, hook the timing light up. best place is on the coil pack wires.

if your timing is right then you should be able to see it with the gun.

you shouldnt have to mess with the TPS.

you should be able to see the white mark you put on the crank pulley with the gun. it should show up everytime it flashes. if its a little off to where its supposed to be advance or retard the CAS by moving it forward and back, be sure to move it slowly.

EDITED*

Already, thanks a lot xplicit240. I will probably get around to working on it tonight after school. I actually didn't find anything about setting the time on the new 240sx bible. Thanks anyways
