I bought a set of 18x10 FR500's for winter/drift wheels so I can refurb my other wheels.

I can't even get a 245/40 on them! Doesn't seem that extreme as Ive run that exact setup on other wheels before, pretty mild compared to alot of stretches.

I know alot of people are running these kind of wheels. Has anyone else had trouble???

So you cant set the bead?

One word....FIRE

put tire on rim
lay it on the ground
spray Carb choke inbetween tire and rim

Gotta be quick

180* aprart from where you will ignite the spray hit the tire tread with a sledge hammer at the same time to suck the flame inside

then tire should bead

Ive done this countless times, we've got it down to where we get it on the first try

cheetah bead seater. aka pushes 180psi into the tire and beads it so you can just add air

It's not the size that's difficult, it's the wheel. ^^^
I've got 245/40's on my 11's. not that outrageous

have you tried going to a shop that carries a CHEETAH?

besically a device hooked up to the air compressor that shoots a high pressure burst of air to assist in setting the bead.

yeah i bought mine for like 200 and it's paid for itself at least 4 times over

10-21-2008, 05:18 PM
Yeah, that isn't that big of a stretch...

A skilled cheetah user should be able to set that no problem.

I'm guessing these wheels are like tying boat anchors to your car?:-/

Do they have barely any room to mount the tire on, like this wheel on the left?

fukkk talking about cheetah I was just using it a few days ago for the first time to do a lowrider tire, that thing RIPPED THE SKIN ON MY ARMS
funny how the manager had it in the office brand new in box, and for the past half year we've been wasting like 10-15mins on some tires to get em on, I wanted to blast him for that with the air. Or just go with the fire method it looks really cool also

Yeah Smelly and his roomie have been trying to mount these things with no success, Im not the mounting guru.

These wheels actually don't weigh that much. 22 pounds for 18x10. Not the best but not alot. Beater wheels so kick rocks if you're grilling.

I know about all those methods and junk, but I want to see who is stretching on stang wheels and do you absolutly HAVE to use a chetah or fire?

If you absolutely cannot bead the tires on there using traditional methods, sometimes you just gotta bring the heat, aka use the ether/fire method.

I know when I tried to mount the FK452s in 215/40/17 on my FNs (17x9), the cheetah couldn't get the job done, so I went home and got a can of ether, and my friend did the ether/fire trick and boom, on goes the bead.

Nah, I LOVE the way they look but with a stock KA I don't think they'd play well with my drivetrain.

OBEEWON

Truth. Stock you don't really need anything this wide. If these dont sell I'll light them up.

Dont know who has a chetah in the Phila area.

How on earth did it rip the skin on your arms? Seriously?

And to the guy above who said you use 180 psi on the cheetah...... FUCK NO. More like 60 to 80.

Yea, all I can say is the china wheels mounted with stretched tires is a bitch.

Leave em in the sun so they warm up, easier in the summer.

Put em on the machine, and keep air through the valve stem, and just work the tire around, with bursts of air.

Tends to work, is just a bitch.

If you dont have a cheetah, sometimes this can be accomplished with this really thick greasy like Tire Lube. Just fill handfuls of it on one sit where it sits real good. If you can find a Tire shop with a high PSI guage like they use for Commercial Truck tires, that will help greatly.
Also a reminder to take out the Valve Core inside while putting in the air, it allows for a lot more air to go in during a fill with a high pressure Air guage.

Hope this helps, and best of luck. If you continue to have problems, send me a PM and we can try and help as much as we can from out here.

I was gonna say, if you can't Cheetah it on, just use a bicycle tire tube.

But, so far, I cannot find any 17" diameter bicycle tubes. I did find and bought a 16" one for stretching 17" tires on a 17" rim though.

gotta240

they sell real "bike tubes" as well, for nearly any size rim.

You can also use a garden hose, just cut the right length to wrap around between the bead of the tire and wheel. Soap and water the wheel and tire well, so that once the bead is about to seat on the wheel it slides out quick and hopefully evenly.

wtf^^ how does that work??

Hashiriya415
10-26-2008, 10:49 AM
it works and it seals so air doesn't escape, making the air inside push the tire out.
But yea I got cuts on my arms from it not being pointed in the right direction, anytime I use it from now on I wear a jacket with sleeves.
