Got my Wilwood 6-Piston caliper kit on my 240sx. 13" GT slotted rotor, fit inside my XXR 501's, 16x8" no spacers.

This is my daily, works great. Wilwood is making them in a 4 / 5 lug pattern now. 4-piston is standard and 6-piston is an upgrade.

um...are those all-seasons?

6 piston brakes on a 16x8, 225 allseasons? seriously?

How much did the setup cost you? including rotors.

retail on the kit with 4-piston calipers is around $1150.00, that includes the same rotor.

Upgrade to the six-pistons is about another $390.00

4-piston offers a bit more clamping force than the 6. Advantage of the 6-piston is differential bore pistons which equals very minimal brake pad tappering (even pad wear)

Asshole, i want a hotdog...

I don't understand the point of doing a big brake upgrade on a 4 lug car lol. It's like "I have the braking power to stop a 500hp car, but I don't have the lug strength to support the hp"

not the truth but it's the point. Methings you did a 6 piston front upgrade to do stoppies or endo's, are the rears still small and cute? :cops:

maybe one day i'll put some stoptechs on and we can brake battle =)

Hell ya Steve, lol.

We've competed on four lug for years now, never had a problem, we are top 3 in Just Drift Top Drift for the second year.

THe brake will work well for a 350 hp, fun street/ club track car / daily. 25 minute willow sessions, no brake fade, drive home.

lol willwoods and sportmax's on all season lol

I'm curious... the disc in the first picture is black, and now looks normal with the wheels on (silver disk black hub) did you buy them painted like that or did you do that job yourself?

Wilwood puts a black coating on their Drilled and Slotted rotors. THey put theat coating at my request on these slotted rotors. The coating is an electri-coating, non-metallic based (like a zinc coat) to protect the areas that are not touched by the pad from rust.

Once the pads are bedded in the coatin in the friction area is gone.

Yes they are sportmax's on all season cheap tires. Like I said this is my daily driver project. OEM calipers were sticking and rotors were done. Was gonna upgrade anyhow. In the end, car will be wearing 17x9.5 in the rear 17x9 in the front and a 1jz with Haltech E11 under the hood.

So why not start with the brakes and suspension. Plus I got a deal on the brakes.

What are you doing for the back to even up the bias?

!Zar!

Why not start with tires first? Shit tires = shit braking.

I am considering posibly using the z32 rears, or using the Wilwood hydro-mechanical caliper, custome mounted on a bigger rotor. Want to retain the parking brake.

Honestly the bias right now is fine for my driving style and comfort.

I chose the 6 piston cause bigger does not always mean more clamping force. The 4 piston uses four 1.75" pistons giving it 4.8 square inches of piston area and equal size pistons can cause pad tappering.

The 6-piston uses one 1.62" piston towards the bottom with two 1.12" pistons towards the top on each side, giving it a total of 4.04 square inches of piston area and due to the differential bore, pad wear is more even, and clamping force is less than the 4-piston and distributed evenly across the pad.

The decreased clamping force helps the bias, and also will do well for endurance under track conditions.

Why not start with tires first? Shit tires = shit braking.

This is true as I have the 4 piston and they grab pretty hard, stock s14 rears, still trying to figure out what to do with the rears. May get the arizona z-car rear upgrade as long as I know I can retain my parking brake as well.

With the Nexus front tires I have on the car will slide if the brakes lock which =no bueno for Me. Going to slap some advan's or bridgestone's up front. The federals can stay in the rear for now, I haven't had any problems with them gripping. WET or dry.

RMJmotor

ZAR you are 100% correct.

Shit tires do equal shit braking, but I aint driving it on track or even hard driving conditions as of yet. On the street, daily driving they work just fine, yes I can lock up easier than if I had nice tires on there. Like I mentioned before, I got a pretty tasty "test fit" deal I could not pass up.

The tires on these wheels are also fairly new and the new wheels and tires I plan to put on when these tire wear out. Just tryin to spread the cash flow wisely.

You now have some awesome front brakes. I'm not gonna bitch at you about it. Good job on getting a good deal, I can't pass that shit up either.

sexy, but sad face at the 4-lug.... Now either your wheels will cost out the ass or you have to buy new hubs and rotors or have your beautiful wilwood rotors redrilled :(

Sadface in my book but still very sexy.

You guys seriously don't notice that these rotors are 9 hole?

he mentions it in his post...

RMJmotor
10-21-2008, 04:31 PM
Murda good looking out.

They are drilled for both 4 and 5-lug. Once again this wheel and tire set up is temporary.

Treken, I have the same size rotors as you just not drilled. They are huge.

I understand that everyone wants 5-lug. To be honest the 4-lug has never let me down. Our old competition hatch ran strong for year on the four-lug no problems. The new coupe we run is even faster, 4-lug no probs.

Yes it's simple physics, a 5-lug is much more superior to 4-lug on a track application, but for street use it does not make a huge difference. In the sexy department and sexy wheel department yes.

Also budget, many of us would rather stay 4-lug and save on the conversion.

How's the brake modulation? Does it give a consistent brake feel every time? I had a problem with Rotoras 6 piston. The stopping power was awesome. But the braking force changed every time I'd step on it. Either it's bite too hard, or too soft (probably valving problem).

RMJmotor
10-27-2008, 01:36 PM
Modulation is great and always consistant. Just through on the 17's off my old Pro Am drift 240sx with some new Federal tires, much better on the braking, very smooth, and easy.
