I went to the K&N site to get a new filter for my car. The previous owner who had my car took the air box out so im looking for a cone filter and this is what i found at the K&N site 57-6000 - K&N 57 Series FIPK, Performance Intake Kit (http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=57-6000)

I mean I know KN filters are reusable and great and everything but are these filters special or something why do they cost like 150. do they come with an intake?

I know pdm sells K&N sells replacement filters for $40 dollars.

I just would like to know the difference? thanks

the K&n kit will be Carb legal, your paying for that and a quality filter.

Does ur car currently have a adapter/flang on it? if you have an old filter, you can look at the rubber part, there will be a part number, then just order the replacement filter for it. They sell the filters seperate like Dousan said. You can even look for measurements and order custom sizing.

from what i understand i believe that so called kit is just the filter and the adapter to your maf that has a lil fitting for the vent elbow spot for temp sensor and mounting bar as is pictured. I believe there is no actual replacement pipe since you will be using your stock intake hose. I could be wrong. If you can rig up your own adapter then you can just get the replacement cone filter for like fifty or whatever it is or match something to your likes/needs. i think that filter is close to seven inches in diameter on the intake hose side so that be a pretty big clamp but like stated above kit will come with the carb sticker.

use the apexi filter. the k&n filters use an oil which will mess with your maf sensor, that is unless it's a dry type filter.

According to k&n their oil doesn't affect the maf sensor. A video search on your favorite search or video search engine for "maf mystery" will probably get you a set of videos on k&n's side of the whole oil and maf stuff. I believe the clips are taken from a dvd they have called oiled and confused talking about dealers and customers with k&n filters and sensors they pulled from those cars and tested and tried to figure out what was going on. I guess each case/application does differ though. Just another side of things.

there was a comparison between a bunch of different filters on here a few months ago, and Apex'i was the one that not only flowed the best but also stopped crap from getting through, so as far as I'm concerned, the apex'i would be the one I got. I've also heard bad things about their (K&N) oil filters as well, seems they're not as good as everyone seems to think.

Exactly. you can just go down to your local Autzone/Kragen/O'Reiley's/Napa and they'll hook you up with one. Save yourself on shipping. They also have some other brand cone filters there.. Spectre I think it was. ^ ^

This has been dis-proven by K&N.

It was a re-post from 2002....

Here's a good rebuttal:
