Yes they should have, and probably would have had the car not been on fire.
A roll cage would not have helped him that much, unless it had door bars, since it hit right in the center of the door. But maybe, just maybe, if it was in there they wouldn't have had to break his pelvis to get him out.

It sounds unreasonable, I know
but.. it's not like the fire was inside the actual vehicle it was clearly in the engine compartment.
agree with roll cage statement

Yeah thats funny I am watching this video while I am in the middle of welding a door bar on a cage literally right now. I dont know if a door bar would have helped that much but it probably would not have hurt anything. It makes me cringe thinking of how close some people scoot their seat up to the dash, if your knees are already touching, just imagine what would happen in this scenario.

Yea I think about this all the time. I see my mom drive and she is literally on the steering wheel. I tell her all the time, "what happens is the air bag blows? You are fucked." Glad I'm, super tall and sit ultra far back from the wheel. Not like I have an air bag anyway...

i dunno.. after watching, i was just thinking about how the s13 shared characteristics with a coke can.. and i definately do not feel safe in the s13 now! so cage with door bars = ftw

Thank god most states have laws to protect citizens from getting sued in cases like this. Not saying that the guy who was saved would've sued them, but some people will. If you guys don't know most states have special laws that protect ordinary citizens from being held responsible for injuries if they are trying to help someone in a case like this.

Yeah, install a rollcage so that at the moment of impat your crack your skull open on the cage. I mean, at least your legs won't be stuck, right? :tardrim:

You'll only crack your skull if you are an idiot and install the cage with a stock seat. With a racing bucket you'll be fine. Unless your cage was designed by a complete moron and hangs down below the top of the door sill that is. The whole "cage's aren't safe on the street" thing is such BS! It is only not safe if the rest of the car is not set up to be safe with a cage. What kind of a moron would have a cage without a racing bucket anyways? That just doesn't make sense.

Holy fuck, you guys went two pages on a video that is at least nine years old. I remember seeing it before I even signed up to a forum.
mkomar24
10-18-2008, 11:49 PM
Another cage option for the street is to do a 4 point rear with door bars that extend all the way to the firewall. I have built a cage that has a rear main hoop far enough back so the driver and passenger heads are in no danger, the rear bars and harness bar are of course out of the way. There is no halo to bang your head on. Door bars extend from the main hoop, even with the side of the bucket racing seat down to pads welded to the firewall and boxed into the side rails as well. This works great form the street as the door bars are at waist level but still protected and there is no halo to crush the skull. Adds rigidity to the chassis and gives peace of mind although it does not meet any Formula D regs (why would you compete in a car built for the street anyways?) I also have toyed with doing x door bars where one bar passes from rear hoop to firewall/floor and the other begins at the floor by the seat belt tie in point, passes thru the other door bar and extends forward thru the firewall to terminate at a pad welded to the forward shock tower. Combined with a tower brace, this would really stiffen up the chassis while maintaining a streetable safe car and in this scenario would possibly save your legs.

thought it didnt look too old.. you may be right. Looks like the car was lowered and removed hub caps, he could have been a member on here. Good shit tho, all those people who helped. The thread title should have been "theres good people out there after all" instead of roll cage.

I have seen so many S-chassis go up like this, usually because of EBAY fuel rails/or other cheap crap.

truth. i think you could get away with a four point, but... 240 owners always take things too far. i've never heard of somebody dying in a 240. but the more people put six points in their street cars... it won't belong before somebody's head explodes in what should have been a non-fatal crash.

projectRDM, you must be mistaken because i actually use to work with this guy in the year 2005 at Robinsons May Glendale Galleria. He picked up that fast back late in the summer. Unfortunately he crashed that car after i stopped working there, but i had a friend that still worked at Robinsons May whom told me about this crash. So with that said, you going on and saying that this video clip is "at least" nine years old is just ridiculous.

uhh... sure if it was in question that he had anything aftermarket, but this has happened to a hand full of STOCK 240's, ask what's name with 9 fingers about how his car caught fire an hour after he parked his car.

So if I google 'MC Hammer' and find a video with a post date of 2008, does that mean it was just made this year? No. You act like TruTV themselves made the video yesterday, instead of what actually happened, someone filmed it, transferred it to their hard drive, showed a few friends, and then finally sold it to someone else who started posting it all over the internet.
