Hey what's up yall, my weekend has been hell and good at the same time. But somethng that is really bugging me right now is funds to buy mods for the car. I mean I have had my car for about 5 months and handles great, I learned alot about how the car operates and can predict what it will do, thanks to some autocrosses. I am college student and have to worry about rent, books, some car maintence, and just things that come up. The only thing that I am going to do very soon (once it gets here) is install a VLSD. I went to this car gathering on friday and saw a couple of friends. Now get this a friend of mine got a '90 s13 in december has already got a tein HE suspension system, whiteline sway bars, and has a sr20 coming in about 2-3 weeks. How can you beat something like that? I am dazed and confused about this situation and will just do what I can do to improve my car. Just venting right now and am going to stop now

I was (and am still) in the same predicament as you are. I had (and still have) great plans for my car. But you've got to take care of yourself first, and try to save some money for general maintenance, "rainy day" occasions (car trouble, extra stuff for school, etc), and then whatever is left--you can spend on mods. If you have an extra $200 or so, order your intake--but only if you have some extra saved up, just in case something happens. Watch what your friend's doing w/ his car and learn from it--and try to figure out how to do the same thing, but for cheaper! Don't try to make your car what his is, if you are scraping by w/ a few dollars left after payday. It's hard work, but you'll learn so much.

I am a college freshman. Like everyother 240sx owner, I have stuff I want to do, but can't. School is just way to important. Books, food, and basic car stuff is already alot.

I don't know how college kids can do it, cause I can't. I should have a $35K internship later one, but that is just to pay off school loans and get experience. You just have to wait till it's over. It's a very, very small investment of time and money in the grand scheme of things.

But when I get out of school and get my student loans paid off, my dreams will come true. Hopefully a good job as an engineer and a few projects.

yeah, dont cut yourself short. when i was building my eclipse a few years ago i had just moved out of my parents and was on my own, i was 17. i must haved lived on ramen noodles for about 7 months, at least 2 times a day. i eventually smartened up, stop modding and moved back home, while i couldnt put as much money into my car, my life was better. i ended up dyno-ing my 4g63 at 317hp and it got rear ended 6 weeks later. but at least i wasnt eating ramen!!!

Yeah, I also have an obscene tuition bill, which consumes my extra cash. I've spent a good deal of money on my car since I've been at college too; race tires, alternate dubs, and sideskirts. The next time I buy something big for the car is going to be a turbo, and that's not until I graduate from college.

I know how it feels to be a college student and pay for mods on a car. I have had a turbo (and a few other accessories) sitting on my dresser for about six weeks. I can't do anything with it due to problem of not having all the parts that need to go with it to do the install properly, and still have a reliable car. Everynight I go to bed and look over at this thing, it pisses me off that it's not on my car. But, I'll keep buying the parts and stacking them together in my room, and when I have everything and boost for the first time, it'll be that much sweeter.

In the words of Nicholas Cage as Memphis Raines (Gone in 60 seconds): "Without disappointment, you can't appreciate victory."

Heh, when I was in college I was just glad my Neon ran, on three bald tires plus the one I had to almost go broke replacing. So I had traction on one wheel at least... if you can call a Goodyear Integrity "traction". Hey, it was good for a 2.2 sec 60'.

Don't worry about it, just remember what you're in school for. With any luck you'll find good work when you graduate.

lol Bbandit. thanks for the advice. Yep college should pay and I got to remember to put that first. As soon as I go on my internship everything should look clear sailing (engineering degree also). thanks yall for the advice and I will learn more about the car with few funds available.
