View Full Version : SR20 Leak?

So i have been having a problem with my Sr20 recently, once it hits boost my AFR's peg at 10:1. The car was tuned for around 11.5-11.7 AFR but now it is not the case. My first thought was boost leak, I pressurized the piping and found a big boost leak. Fixed the leak and a couple other small ones and thought my problem would be solved. Wrong, car still runs pig rich and i cant figure it out. After some searching some have had a problem with leaky injectors, which my car shows symptoms of sometimes (white smoke at idle, the thick kind and it smells like my car dumped raw fuel on the ground). Here is the thing, I cant find anyone having a leaky injector problem with a topfeed fuel system, can topfeeds leak in a way to cause an extreme rich condition? I dont think i can test my injectors they way one would with sidefeeds? Also is there a way to test for a boost leak somewhere on the intake mani? i assume it wont hold pressure due to the valves being open and I want to eliminate leak on the manifold. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I am tired of my car fouling out plugs after 4-5 days and I cant seem to get this problem solved.

Thanks in advance

What brand are the injectors?

check your Coolant temp sensor, might have crapped out

clean MAF also

and check to make sure the ECU is Grounded properly

Mine came loose on time and it was runnin really rich, regrounded the ECU and problem went away.

Injectors are MSD #50's, Coolant temp sensor is 1 year new, I will clean the MAF and check to see if the ecu is grounded properly. Anybody have any experience with the stock manifold leaking anywhere in particular???

Thanks for the suggestions Sileighty, I will check those first thing in the AM.

Oh yea, fuel pressure is 40 at idle with the hose one, and compression is 165 across the board.

kinda hard for the intake manifold to leak they use metal gaskets

see if you can pull any codes from the ECU too.

how did you get 165??? Adverage is like 150psi, are you runnging higher comp pistons?

What I should have said was a leak from the manifold, at one of the hoses etc, just wondering if any of the hidden ones are prone to failing and how could I test it. The car is running a PowerFC, and I was curious in regards to the high compression test numbers as well. I chalked it up to carbon buildup on the pistons. The car was imported used from japan so I am not 100% sure whats in the block but I am pretty sure its stock.

IACV is really the only hose under there.
All the other hoses are Coolant

Whats your timing set at?

cant you pull the fuel rail and turn the ignition swith to ON and see if the injectors leak? You could have a vacuum leak thats possible.

Timing is 15 degrees at idle, can I use the standard injector leak test (unbolting rail etc) with topfeeds?
