View Full Version : Systematic approach to shifting smoothly?

How would you explain how to systematically shift smoothly from 1st to 2nd gear?
What I normally do is clutch, 1-2, gas a little bit, hold at friction point and release.
Other times, I'll clutch and move 1-2 slowly, and then get back on the gas.
What's the best approach?

what kind of asshole uses a clutch pedal now-a-days?

the best approach i found was selling my 240 while the markets hot and buying a automatic civic, with the left over money i bought everything off the shelves of a whole isle in autozone
with that pesky stick out of the way my old lady gives me road head all the time :lockd:

I do it without the clutch, fuck it. Synchros are already trashed and it grinds less often without the clutch.

^kind of a dick comment man, not necessary.
I try and shift around 2,500rpm's and it shifts pretty smooth. I believe just letting off the clutch pedal slowly, not like riding the clutch slow but I guess kind of like a lazy slow, maybe as you let off the clutch give it a tiny bit of gas.

you are both slipping the clutch between gears. that's a no no and it means you don't know how to drive stick properly.

the best way to shift between 1st and second is getting out of your car, then leave it in neutral, THEN you push your car into a lake.
