so not too long ago my water pump to my 97 s14 (ka24de) went out and blew my radiator. i replaced the thermostat, water pump and put a new radiator. my car ran fine hasnt overheated since the incident which was 6 months ago. but just recently it started to over heat again. i changed thermostat and water pump again and it still over heats. An odd thing i noticed though is when i turn the car off, and turn it back on it will stay at operating temp. has anyone had this problem? ive searched but i couldnt find anything that was really similar to my problem. any info would help

Never had this experience.
Did you properly bleed the coolant system?

did you check to make sure its not your temp sensor freaking out?

I don't think the sensor would cause a radiator to blow... Maybe some build up on the engine causing restriction of flow?

i meant that it now may not actually be overheating, that the sensor is just freaking out.
i suggest this because he said that it is fine after he shuts the engine off and starts it back up. a mechanical issue wouldnt fix itself simply from shutting the engine off and starting it back up, but an electrical issue might.

i replaced the coolant temp. sensor today and the problem still consist. i watched it today from start and it took 5-7 minutes before coolant was pouring out the overflow tank. as soon as i turned it off the it didnt over heat. maybe theres some sort of blockage?

well the air pocket might be a good way to start, your t stat was it installed in the right direction? have you checked and see maybe your having a blow by. What you do it this cool the motor take the rad cap off then start the car if your radiator turns into a geiser you have a blow by. Hey this is just my 2 cents it happened to my homeboy before. like 2 weeks ago.
buy an OEM nissan thermostat not the oriellys brand or where ever you got it.

The ka is a super bitch to get all the air out of the coolant system you need to make sure all the air is out ... Had the same problem...... bleed all the air out

Could be blockage in your water jackets or defective thermo. Bleed the system first and see if that helps. I dont think it will since the car ran for 6 months no problem but its worth a shot. If that doesnt help take out the thermo and run without one if the car doesnt overheat.

Coolant doesnt magically get air into it. That can only happen when your messing with your cooling system. If your car has been cooling fine for 6 months and starts to overheat and you havnt done anything, chances are you have either a bad clutch fan(just because its spinning doesnt mean its good), a stopped up radiator, stuck T-stat, bad water pump, stopped up heater core, or a blown HG. There are a few other causes, but they are much less likely.
FYI, all you have to do to avoid the PITA chore of burping the Ka's cooling system is pour the antifreeze REALLY slowly(with bleeder valve open). It takes me 10-15 min to fill it up, and i never ever have air in the system.

hahaha maybe, the thermostat was properly installed with a brand new water pump. im also running an electric fan. im gonna do what sochet stated and air bleed it, if all else fails im gonna take out the thermostat and see what happens. thanks for the info ill let you guys know the result...oh another odd thing i noticed, since this overheating issue, every time i come to a complete stop the motor revs to about 2k rpm stays there for about 3 seconds and goes down to 1100 rpm it normally idles at 800 rpm
