My Friend wanted to tune his Mazda 3 so I went with him to pick up some NGKs. While I was there, I figured I would get some for my car as well. Picked up BKR6EIX's for my Blacktop S13SR20DET. Its been well over a year and a half since I last put BKR6EIXs on mine. I figured I was well over 30K and should change them.

After doing his car. We decided to see how my spark plugs were doing. The first Opened normally, there was a bit of torque there. So I using the wrenche I got it out without a problem.

2nd was completely loose, 3rd and 4th came off easily as well. I didnt even need a rachet to get those out. Thats not good.

I remember when I put them on. I had this guy I used to know who worked at kragen, he tightened them for me telling me 'this is how u do it'.

My specs are:
Stock S13 Sr20det. (Internals etc.)
Stock S13 T25 Turbo
Greddy RSPL FMIC
Walbro Fuel Pump 255 lph
Greddy Type RS BOV
3 Inch Straight pipe/Test pipe.

Is this due to the plugs being loose? Or does that tell you something bout the engine? Am I running Rich?

I already put on the new plugs. And tightened them more than normal. It seems to be running smoother.

Do I need a tune? Was having a loose Sparkplug bad for the engine? Did I cause damage?

Those plugs are not cold enough, What boost you running? Id say the plugs are showing the engine is running a tad on the lean side of things. Id go for 7's next time, Im running 8's.

Kill yourself.

BKR7E or BCP7E.

Anti Seize and good torque down should do it. I mean. Its an aluminum head, so don't wreck it. If you can't torque spark plugs correctly, you should think about taking the car to a mechanic.

did you not read. I didnt torque them the first time around.

And i thought BKR7Es were useful if you were over 300hp. Thats what I read when I searched here. So I replaced them with BKR6s.

My engines running lean?

you should run ngk 7's. it does look like you're running a bit lean. how much boost are you running on that t25.if you're around 11psi or so i'd upgrade the spark plugs to 7's.

Ok. How long should I wait before getting the 7s? I Just put the 6s in there. They should last me what? couple months of DD?

Also, How do I make it run less lean? Retard/advance timing?

Blaming other people for things on your car not being correct is not an excuse. Its your car, if you are not the type to take it to a mechanic your plugs should be fine.

My "kill your self" comment was towards the 6's. Go buy 7's. Like yesterday. Everyone runs 6's because that is all they carry at kragen. Ghetto.

Ordered the BKR7s. Carquest gets em.

But what does a drop of oil on spark plug mean?

"spark plug tube seal" could be leaking oil down into the spark plug area.

buy a valve cover gasket set and they should be included.

True. You can't blame the Kragen guy for a spark plug change which you should have done yourself.

A lot of these Kragen and Autozone people are idiots that don't know anything bout cars. In addition, they drive to work in a Honda, or Hyundai, so why would you let these idiots touch your car?

1. Spark plugs like any other nut or bolt on your car has torque specs.
Worse comes to worst, you can just snug the plugs and Do not over torque anything, that is how you snap spark plugs and then you'll be really screwed.

2. Go look at the factory specs for spark plugs.

3. Idiots will buy super duper Platinum Iridium Plutonium spark plugs for their stock engine. That is the dumbest thing that you can do.

Buy what your engine is designed for OEM! Unless you have a highly modified race car that needs such luxuries.

Adding improper or high performance plugs that is not needed for the engine, can infact HURT the engine.

Simple rules. Read Read Read.

Isnt the OEM for SR20DET BKR6EIX? Thats what I read here when I was ordering them.

I dont get why I need colder plugs IF I
-Dont race.
-dont drift
-boost around 10psi
-dont take my rpms above 4500rpm.

Why is everyone saying to put the 7s? IS that better for fuel consumption? Running less lean? Driving faster? More HP? What is it.

the ix are pretty cool for the SR.

They are re-packaged Iritops, we had an at length discussion a while ago about them.

Either way. Plain old V-Power plugs work great. and heat range 7 at the minimum is the way to go.

Get the 7's and dont waste your money on the iridiums.

I think I might think about trying 8s. I am at the 350-400whp range.

I know this thread is old. I need help find right kind of spark plugs for my s13 redtop sr20det with GTIR t28 running 8 psi about 260hp. This car is daily driver and drift track so which is better bkr6e ix or bkr7e ix or what? What's gap? 0.030?

This is a ridiculous bump! Second you estimated your hp too high and Copper bkr7's .028-.030 if it's not right lower/raise the gap.
