So my Power FC just came in yesterday after a looong week. Only problem is when I plug it in, nothing happens. Commander doesnt come on and car wont start. I checked and re-checked to make sure it was plugged in correctly. Ive checked and re-checked the part numbers on both my stock ecu and Power FC. When I plug in my stock ecu everything works fine. Car starts right up and drives with no problems.

My ecu is an NA code. Part# 23710 80F00

The Power FC unit I have is 414AN016 Power FC 96-99 SR20DET Silvia S14(After Minor Change)

My car is a 95 s14 with a later model SR20DET

What the hell can be wrong.

Here is a pic of my stock ecu:

Turn off your boost control assuming you do not have the Apexi boost control kit. Your car won't start if it is on and you do not have it.

Use google search for Pauls R33 Apexi Power FC FAQ

IF it all works out would you be selling your stock ecu? I need an ecu :)

pfc is very picky with the grounds, make sure you have them all grounded. specifically the eccs grounds.

Yes, this is what I am now looking into. Can you help me out with this? What exactly am I looking for and where? [email protected] R/T Tuning said that the stock ecu and harness have two wires that carry power. He said the stock ecu will work even if only one wire/pin has power, while the Power FC needs both wires/pins to have power. Only problem is, I dont know which pin and neither does Matt. I called Apexi but their main guy in charge of these issues is out at Formula D for the weekend and wont be in until Monday.

If someone knows where I can get a complete wiring diagram for my ecu, please let me know. Thanks.

I found one diagram but it doesnt list what all the pins are for, just a few.

Thanks again.

Apexi PowerFC FAQ (http://paulr33.skylinesaustralia.com/docs/powerfc-faq/powerfc-faq.htm#68)

Taken from the FAQ

"My car won't start when I plug in the PowerFC, but the stock ecu works fine
First when dealing with a new PowerFC install and the car does not start there are a few basics to check;

Check the PowerFC to car loom connector
Check the warning lights on the dash, do they come up?
On the hand controller, goto ETC, SENSOR SW CHECK, are any sensors highlighted in black? (Shouldn't be)
Make sure you disable the Boost Control Kit if you aren't using it
Make sure you have the right airflow meter selected (if you have a non standard one)
Make sure you have correct injector settings (if you have non standard ones)
Check all fuses
Listen for clicking relays
Check for burning smells near the ECU and or inside the ECU
Inspect the ECU itself for physical damage or burn marks (open it up) "

I'd check the bold ones, since your hand controller isn't powering the rest are hard to do...

I wouldn't open up the unit unless you know what you are doing, it may sound silly, but smell the PFC ECU, if you are at all familiar with the smell of burnt electronics, you will know what you are checking for.

Hopefully it is a fuse or ground issue.

Good luck.

RedStage,

Thank you for the help. I dont know how I missed this part of that FAQ.
I'll try those and see what happens. I am familiar with that smell, unfortunately...lol. Thanks again. I'll keep you guys posted on my findings.

Ok so there is nothing wrong with my Power FC. I found a list of the pins on the ecu connector and found that there are 3 ECCS wires. One for ground, one for back up power and one for power. I found only the backup wire had constant 12v. The other power wire had nothing. So I jumped this pin and voila, Power FC and Commader came to life. car started up and everything.

I still have a problem. My Power FC wont save any changes. The only changes it saved were changes to the injector values. This is when I had constant power to both ECCS wires. I ran switched 12v to the eccs power wire since the Commander wouldnt turn off when I had constant 12v running to both wires. Now it wont save any changes to the maps, rev idle, nothing.

Is anyone familiar with these ECCS wires? What is ECCS?
