I know there are a number of CA Ref posts already, but this announcement deserves its own thread.

Resumption of CAP and Referee Services

Effective immediately, CAP Repair Assistance and Vehicle Retirement service contracts, as well as the Referee contract, have been reinstated. Today, October 6, 2008, services provided under the CAP contracts may resume. Consumers can contact CAP at (866) 272-9642.

Im very curious as to how the ref's are gonna "perform" after all of this.

Im hoping its the "fuck it, im apparently expendable - here ya go" and not the "fuck you, im pissed about all of this - bend over!" :bowrofl:

Hey CrimsonRockett what did you get your ref ticket for? When I went to get my old civic bar'd they would not run the tests because it was too low. This was at the Goldenwest location.

Oh, then you should be fine because all they will probably do is look at the carb stickers and verify them. Good luck

Even if you sell the car you have to pay the fine. You are better off paying the fine and keeping the car.

well ive had 4 friends go to the same court where my ticket is (with REF tickets) and they provide a "bill of sale" and the judge has dropped it and charged the $10 "fit it ticket" fee and called it a day...and even if that doesnt work...id still have to pay the fee anyways...so might as well give it a try right?

I just got back from the ref station in Monterey Park.

They're really cool people down there.

My exhaust ticket was signed off, but the smog one I have to go back for because my car is too low to get on the dyno.

But, yah.

REALLY cool people there.

I would highly recommend going there, but make sure your shit isn't dumped.

Driveway is INSANELY steep.

hey real smart idea, considering you have to file a police report in the event that your car is actually stolen.

This is just what I heard, there is a ref station in Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga. And they pretty much just let you pass on anything you have ticket for... but THIS JUST what I heard from friend that when to ref there.

Sorry to hear that CrimsonRockett. I thought they were just going to verify the carb sticker and not do the actual test. Good luck.

I went to the one in Chaffey College in Rancho for "modified exhaust." The dumb cop wouldn't believe me when i told him its under decibels. Drove that shit right in. The dude was a cool guy, but I told him to write down model and make of the exhaust on the slip so i can show the cops next time, but he just says all i do is run the test, you can make photot copy of anything you want." There is clearly a place on the sticker for the exhaust model and make...so i was like...wtf?

27156(b) VC - Modified or Missing Smog Device.

Dilemma is, 89 coupe with 97 KADE and partial OBDII conversion besides all the bolt-ons you can think of and some internal work as well...

That wouldn't mean he's fucked at all. He just needs all the emissions crap on it.

Well going from KA E to KA DE is the start of problems because its not OE for that model and year. CA says that i can legally change the engine providing i use everything from the 97 (or whatever engine code, family, make, model "legal") sensors and exhaust to computer, diag. port and check engine light on the 89 chassis. After the conversion, I must pass a visual, mechanical and emissions test as any other car would. After passing and the state refs approval, They would then provide me a ID Tag that would be displayed under the hood and or in the driver door jam stating the "Legal Mod". Every other year i would need to pass smog as a XX year, s14 OBDII from that point on...

I just didnt plan on completing the s14 OBDII eng/s13 chassis conversion. Nothing really matches in the harness. It's almost comletely different and i like my work done right. So this means more time then i really wanted to put into it. All for updating the engine in my ride and being "street legal".

Time to pick apart that green s14 at the local pick-a-part.

^You can avoid the OBD2 shit buy converting the s14 KA to s13 KA spec, and running a dash/body harness from a dohc ka s13. It makes everything fully plug and play, and you can still use the Consult system.

I still gotta do it to my car. Having to get a "special" smog for a 100% stock and healthy dohc KA just because its in an '89 s13 really really sucks. lol

I have to call mine in pretty soon as well. 4-24-09.

My car isn't completely registered yet. Going into the DMV and hoping for a permit to drive the car for a month.

I have never been to the state ref, and was curious if they check for any thrown codes. My CEL bulb "went out", and won't show a damn thing. OH DARN.

TECHNICALLY, the car isn't mine, but is in the process of being registered to me. Could I use that as an excuse to get out of the ref?
