View Full Version : Input needed on build
Ive got to pull my new engine out so I thought now would be a good time do some mods. Let me know, from experience, what you think about what Id like to build and what if anything you would add/change. Keep in mind, I have a bit to spend but Im no baller, Ive budgeted all these parts so that this can be done in less than 2 months.
I have a rebuilt 96 Blacktop Sr
all stock components
greddy style bov
fmic setup
3" downpipe
test pipe
Greddy profec b spec 2 boost con
Blitz tt
Innovative wideband 02
Planning to....
HKS Step 2 264/264 cams
HKS Valve springs
From what Ive read, you just need springs to run the cams? Anything else I should factor in? Retainers?
If it takes longer, Ill hold out to get the right shit for the head so I dont have to pull it back off again
Cosworth 1.8mm head gasket Thicker the better? Suggest another?
Exhaust Manifold
2871r .64 or .84? Recomendations?
Turbo Piping adaptor
Turbo Elbow
Duetchworks 740cc injectors(may be getting a deal on em)
Power FC(need to do some more research on the whole map/maf thing) Map or Maf?
Can Anyone in San Antonio/Texas tune the PFC or is it easy enough for me to tune with my wideband?
Greddy Intake manifold(as soon as I can afford it)
If there is anything vital I left out, lmk, or if you have any positive feedback on what I wanna do I would greatly appreciate it. Ive driven/drifted/worked on a few SRs but havent had the chance to build one up yet, even if it is kind of a mild build.

rocker arm stoppers is a must
ah yes, the ras, forgot to list that
what injectors would you recommend? The only reason I may use them is that a buddy has em and will let em go cheap

dont forget about the small supporting mods. Motor and tranny mounts, intake filter exhaust outlet ect. All of those not only add to reliability but also add responsiveness (is that a word?) to the set up. Flywheel and clutch are also probably in order.

clutch and maybe resurfaced flywheel. I don't see the point in a lightened flywheel if you're going to be sliding.

I dont see a upgraded fuel pump on your list! You definetly need one of them. I would also do some cooling upgrades like a koyo radiator. I know it gets nice and toastie in texas and the last thing you would want to do is over heat on the track.

Oh and also invest in a adjustable fuel pressure regulator if your going to upgrade your turbo. You dont want to skimp out on fueling

Car is already up and running. Fuel pump is Walboro 255. Have a mishimoto rad and dual FAL fans, samco hoses. I wrote this up pretty fast so I left a few things out I guess.

motor mounts/tranny are good, checked em when we swapped engine.
def need a new air filter, have to change that often because I live on a gravel road

Im not sure what clutch/flywheel combo I have but will look into upgrading it when I have the motor back out. The swap I have in my car now came out of another complete running car I bought. The new car wasnt set up as well as my track car so I went ahead swapped the engine and parted the shell to a buddy thats doing 1jz swap. I dont know whats in it yet but it has a VERY stiff clutch petal.
Whats your recomendation on FPR and what pressure should it be roughly?
I was looking through the 2871r users thread and I have a question. What is the benefit of running a 264/272 combo vs just 264/264?

how you gonna put this power to the ground?
before anything, i did UPGRADE motor mounts (stock ones are shit, i dont care if you inspected them), trans mount, rear subframe bushings, rucas, federal 595's on a proper wheel setup, coilovers of course, and a 1-piece steel driveshaft. clutch and flywheel are next, i dont see that on your list and it should be.
or maybe you just didnt list what i mentioned...

this is what Im working with

I have Tien coilovers, adj tension rods, ruca, rear toe arms. I have it pretty well set the way I want it. Im thinking the only thing Im going to have to worry about is upgrading to a wider wheel and playing with fitment. The wheels on it now are 15x8 -12s with 205/50/15s up front and 195/50/15 in the rear. Since I just dropped the sr in I havent bought new wheels yet or decide if Im gonna do 5 lug. Probably have to since 4lug offsets suck ass and I have 30mm widefenders. Looking to run something 10j but nothing bigger than a 17.
