i finally found a 240 on my budget. it is a 1990 240sx coupe, with 5 speed, ac, power nothing, no heads up, power steering and a sohc ka. is there a lsd equiped model in my year, how can i tell if i have an lsd differential. also i have heard worse things with the early model s13's, what are the problems? i plan on swappin in a red top sr20, will i run into any immediate problems?

I have a '90 FB.... no problems really besides the minor ones i caused :D
I dunno did you look it over before you paid for it... there is not really much i could tell you if you already got it in your driveway. As for the SR.... i believe the biggest pain in the ass is the wire harness.. ive never done the swap im just basically going off of what ive read.... Other than the hoses and crap that don't reach the proper sides.. but thats not as complicated as the wiring.
However.... i do believe in one of my SCC's theres an email addy of this guy who will make you a wire harness to fit the SR in your 240SX... i could look it up if your serious about going that route...

ONly american S13's with LSD's came with Hica's i think, unless it was an option that nobody ever got around where i live. My Sohc hasn't had to many proublems for the year ive had it. ONly clutch went out(lasted almost 200k), some how i blew off 4 bolts from exhaust manifold(might have been from when i hit a ranger :( )
but other than the car has been put through hell and holds together really nicely

ive read many posts arguing the 89-90 240sx lsd option. i need to know the answer. my diff is an aluminum finned unit also, if that makes a difference......... here is a model code HLS13FU27. there has to be some guru that knows the correct answer

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the LSD wasn't available before 91. But if you did have it, you would have some form of HICAS indicator light in the bottom left corner (I think) of the gauge cluster.

ok folks, there is a faq about this subject over in the archives and faq's section. and as far as the Hicas indicator light goes yes Hicas cars had LSD. But it was a option that could be ordered on the cars after 7/90 i.e. 91 model year and you did not have to get a Hicas car to order . go read my faq and stop specualating like above.

haha, no im not just another wanna be drifter or just want an sr and dont even know why. everyone is so touchy on that jdm thing.......... if you are such big experts on the subject we should send you all to an island so you can reproduce happily not worrying about infiltration by the non-jdm spec race. i think thats the only thing that would shut you up. i just recently got a 240 but my family has had our Nissan/Toyota truck service and repair shop open for 5 years. i am a nissan nut........ i have 3 trucks, one bagged and convertable d21 mini and a couple 4wd. so please everyone do yourself a favor and leave the jdm comments to yourself

I'd have to agree on Negular on this one...I mean, unless you really want to make your car genuinely JSPEC, then there really is no point to going SR. The KA produces way more torque and more HP at a lower boost pressure.
At least, that's what I gathered from countless threads of KA-T vs. SR20....:)

Oh, and no, you don't have a limited slip differential (at least not original).

here its comes again........
i have decided to go SR becuase if i go KA-t i will not only have to rebuild my engine but also my tranny. what i like about the SR is that it already has forged pistons and a higher redline. I figured a bigger turbo would do better if it had more time to spool, but of course i don't know what im talking about.
sean
PS. One reason KA-T's make more power at lower boost is that people ussualy put a bigger turbo that produces lots more CFM's than a little biddy T25(im pretty sure)

MyFirst240: iirc, KAs have forged pistons as well. Also, while you're correct on the turbo sizing, the main reason KAs make more power with less boost is displacement.

Thats why I'm still a little bit "iffy" I dont really want to use the stock tranny since its a little worn... but I guess it doesn't really matter.
