View Full Version : Need to know how dificult it is to replace throw out bearing!!

hey im thinking about picking up a car with a bad throw out bearing.. was wondering if anyone has changed one on here and could give me an overview of the procedure..

It's the same as a clutch job. Search on how to replace your clutch and you'll know if you're capable of doing it or not.
Also, most shops I think charge $200 or so to replace the clutch.

to get to the throw out bearing you have to remove the transmission. the throw out bearing is engaged with a seat that slides on the tranny input shaft. yank it off with a puller or something and put a new one on.

but... if you're going to drop the transmission to get to it, you really might as well do a full clutch job.

oh yeh i know i can do that... ive always called that the release bearing, didnt know it was also called throw out.. thanks alot

well it must not have been a full clutch job because replacing the clutch+TO bearing usually go hand in hand, or should
