Hey guys this is in regards from my transmission busting thread in the chat section. http://zilvia.net/f/chat/216254-way-home-today.html
I believe I found the problem, but want to make sure it is the main source of the problem.

My driveshaft was shredded up. All the rubber holding it together where the input goes into the transmission was completely destroyed and grinded down. So The noise I think came from this, and since this was very loose I believe the gear oil smell was coming from here leaking some. Also I think chunks of rubber were hitting the transmission housing walls and that was the sound I thought was metal inside the transmission.
What I did to sort of diagnose the transmission, was start the car without the driveshaft in and run through all the gears. All the gears worked well and it didn't really grind at all, except a little bit when I stuck it in reverse. Was this the right thing to do and will that alone tell me that my transmission is okay?
Heres a video of how bad my driveshaft got busted because I love making videos now for some reason http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HltWh0pyoao. If you watch the video you can see better where it was grinding.
