Need some help on fining out what's wrong with my tranny. Car has 160K miles with fresh tranny fluid.

It happens when I am in the track heel toe downshifting from 4th into 3rd. It wouldn't go into 3rd but there are no resistance in the shifter. Feels like it just pop out of gear after I shifted into 3rd. This is very scary since I lost the engine braking before the turns and would understeer into the turn since I brake very late.

Sometimes even when I brake hard on 3rd and it will pop out of gear.

Should I change the shifter bushings or is there something wrong with my tranny.

Thanks for the help.

First third gear...then 5th gear....then maybe even reverse, after that your tranny is fucked. Refer to my thread in the chat section for that hahaha.

What's the average cost on rebuilding a tranny?

Just attach a bungee cord to your dashboard to hold the shifter in the third gear position. Much cheaper than a transmission rebuild.

Average cost for a rebuild will vary wildly depending on who you ask, much easier just to find a good used transmission and swap it out.

You sure you don't mean the block rings/collar? Synchro's help you go into gear not stay in it.

I'm leaning to you having bent a shift rod or collar fork.

This sounds more like it. I am not grinding in any gears. It is just having trouble staying in 3rd sometimes. If I hold the shifter in 3rd for longer, it would stay there.

I am going to get a new shifter and report back.
Thanks guys

bent rod or fork. all due to abuse or misuse, check other systems of the car as well.
