what kind of oil do you guys use for your sr swaps? 5w-30 or 10w-30. i know both can be used in the sr but i want to know which one is better and why. plus what brand of oil you guys use (royal purple, lucas, synthetic/synthetic blend) etc... plus whats the difference between 5w and 10w? which one is thicker? any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

i use royal purple 15w40 in the summer. the higher the number the thicker the oil. most oil used is a multi viscosity oil you can tell by the 2 numbers listed on the front with the first number being how thick it is while cold and the second number how thick it is while hot.

so do you use a lower number oil in the winter time? whats the difference?

some people use a lighter oil in the winter, like 10w-30 or something like that

i prefer to use a lower number in the winter because where i live it gets very cold. I imagine if you live anywhere down south you dont have to worry about changing your oil for the different seasons as its usually pretty warm all year round. and the difference is the thickness 10w would be higher then 5w therefore 10 is a heavier oil

do not use ROYAL PURPLE. Its not accurately weighed. If you wanna use good stuff, get motul, amsoil or redline. but lately since my budget isnt that high i just use mobil 1 10W 40. not too thick not too thin.

Really?
Proof please.
As far as the OP is concerned, get an oil with a higher viscosity in the summer time (especially where you live. Vegas get too fucking hot in the summer.) Winter time you should be able to manage with something like 5-30.

So you talk shit about royal purple, but present no facts to back it up. HELPFUL! I love royal purple. My KADE has a timing chain noise (duh) when I switched from mobil 1 20-50 to royal purple 20-50 my timing chain noise was quieted for about an additional 1000mi of driving compared to the mobil one.

WOW! Completely BS too. I use Royal Purple as well. I love Motul, but its hard to come by. Royal Purple from my experience lasts a little longer before breakdown (Total Black) and the motor is noticeable quieter. Since then a couple of friends also switched to Royal and noticeable difference....
Motul is my #1 because I use it in my Gixxer, I love the smell. (Did you guys know Motul is made out of veggie oil base... Yum Sweet Smell)...

I use 20w-50 all year round, daily, track, etc.
Oil pressure is a bit high on cold mornings, but when it warms up it's all good.
Right now I'm using cheap Castrol because the previous owner ran the previous oil til it was f'n black as hell. Pretty much I'm cleaning it out with fresh Castrol for a bit.
My next oil change is going to be AMSOIL 20w-50.

I use Royla Purple 10w-30 on my stock KA24DE. My buddy told me thats its the only oil you feel the difference when pulling out of the bay, and he was pretty much right.
