alright, right now i have a gutted s13 shell that i'm working on building... under the hood there was an engine fire back in the day...long story short after sitting for 3 years the spot that was burnt on the wheel well is rusted almost through...
so i am going to just do a rhd conversion(cut the front clip off now where the rhd clip is cut, and reweld back together
i'm not to scared about it because i've seen it done to many other cars that were totaled from rear end collision, but what i am wondering is what kind of cage i should look into, i wanted to just run a saftey 6pt with door bars, but i didnt want to weld it in
should i be worried about chassis problems w/o a welded cage if i push the car hard quite often(road racing/possibly drifting)
any help would be great

I think this is a bad idea, Especially for a car you plan to race or drift. I dont understand the appeal of RHD anyways, What is so special about it to you?

You want to chop the front off of your car and just weld up a jdm one?
hahaha.

that is not the correct way to do it at all....... you would have so much flex in that car it would be insane........what you need to do is cut the fire wall and do it that way.....but as for doing all that just to take care of rust........dude just cut the cancer out and weld in a new piece of metal......i drive a rhd and you doing all that work just to cover a hole of rust/cancer isnt worth your time trust me.:stupid:

sounds like the definition of a "salvaged" car...
2 parts of a car welded back together.

Plus I think that's illegal in cali or osmething?
Because it is unsafe as well as the car wouldn't be straight.

The correct way to do is to just cut out and swap the firewall, nothing else. 'Clipping' the car makes for the biggest piece of flexible shit possible, you're going to have a murder time just driving it in a straight line.

there is nothing wrong with clipping a car. there is an icar standard way to do it. in no way is it illegal or will the car not be straight. dont get me wrong, there are technicians out there that would half ass it. but it in the hands of a qualified shop, who will check the dimensions, and weld lap joints... you will be very happy. i will say i personally have done it both ways! If it were my car i would clip it. you will have less to worry about in the means of water leaks around the firewall, wiper cowl, and windshield. Jst my opinion though. Good luck with the project.

Just drill out the spot welds holding the front end on and spot weld the new front on just like stock.

You better be a miracle welder. If you are amateur, I wouldnt recommend this at all.

not a master welder..but have done my fair share most likely i will run it through the shop but get a discounted rate
should i weld the cage in though... or would i be fine with running a bolt in?

"Sectioning" a car is a big task. its easier than pulling the firewall if you are a skilled fabricator, but nevertheless just as unsafe as doing a firewall swap. there are certain procedures and guidelines to follow for chassis reenforcement when sectioning a car, along with where to cut etc. sectioning is performed in body shops all the time, particularly with high end cars that haven't reached the "totaled" mark due to their high value. bottom line, if you have to ask on here about the integrity of the chassis, you shouldn't do it. leave it to the pro's. or, since its your car, give it a shot. gotta learn somehow.

While I agree with you, this is zilvia. You won't find but maybe a handful of people on here who would do it the correct way as you state. That's why I try to dissuade people from doing things that require skill. It's like giving a loaded gun to a bunch of retards, someone is going to get shot.
