...on the way to Thailand, I will be hopefully staying over in Japan for a couple days. I was wondering if any of you guys living in Japan know of any good hotels in the Shinjuku area for reasonable prices and also good places for parts to checkout while I am there?

Also, does anyone know how much I can pack on check-in baggage to bring back stateside?

Thanks.

It should be whatever you can carry, but it can't be too big.

When I went to Zimbabwe I brought back a bunch of these little stone animal/sculpture things. Most were in my hand luggage, between my brother and I we had 3 bags (one bookbag, and 2 of those sport bag things, with the big straps on em). They never said anything, but I think if they see you struggling to carry it, or it won't fit in the overhead compartments they will make you check it in.

So plan on only bringing small parts that will fit in your bag, but keep in mind they will know what is in there, when you put your stuff throught the metal detector thing. So nothing sharp, or something that looks like a weapon.

I believe it all depends on the size and weight of the item(s). Just as long as its not a potential weapon and you can fit the baggage in the overhead...you should be fine.

Wish you could get something for me (its small)....but it will be near impossible....i think.

yeah Jason... I wish I could bring a front clip for myself, but I looked everywhere for luggage big enough for a front clip with no avail. Maybe if I call Samsonite they can custom make a suitcase...LOL

stay at the shinjuku prince hotel, its a tad on the expensive side but its centrally located (less than 1/4 mi from shinjuku station) and definitely near all the night time happenings :p

oh yea if u go venture out at night be prepared to be bombarded by africans asking you to go to their hip hop clubs or strip clubs; DONT GO!!!!!!

also suggested to reserve your room, go to below to book:

http://www.princehotels.co.jp/english/ (book prince hotel here)

shops? most are out of the way of public transpo so u might as well rule that out; although i think that tokyo bay super autobacs maybe close but i forgot!!

i'd suggest checking out akihabara and shibuya. both are pretty close to shinjuku.

enjoy your stay!!

BTW if you see any S15 shift knobs, get me one and I will buy it off of you, steering wheel would be nice to but it will take up a good amount of space so just the shift knob.

If you can that would be great, if not it's ok. I'll have to go to japan some time with no luggage :D .

I am hoping to get a few parts such as shift knobs and stuff, but I will have to find out where I can find stuff as I will only be there a couple days. Hopefully some peeps can guide me in the right direction, I chose Shinjuku to stay in because its central location and access to public transportation so that I can get back to the airport, but will be visiting surrounding areas as I have a friend that goes to the Tokyo Communication School, although he knows nothing about cars and that sucks.

let me know if you can get a S15 steering wheel or some S14 OEM rear valence.

I will be on the lookout, I need the rear valances myself. If anyone knows where to find good shops in the Tokyo area, let me know so I can find stuff easier. Thanx

Last time I flew on a domestic flight, I was limited to 32lbs (I think) for my carry on bag. You might wanna contact a representative of your travel agency (or airline you are flying on) and ask them their policy on carry on luggage. It would suck to get a bunch of stuff...then have to pay to mail it home because its too much to be allowed as carry on.

I will keep all the info in mind. I have narrowed it down now at least.. I am going to look around for Up Garages in the area, seems that they have a good number of locations in Japan
