View Full Version : Lifetime of aftermarket shocks
Just wondering what the lifetime of aftermarket shocks are compared to stock.
It seems that most of the time upgrading stuff like this makes it better but decreases lifetime. Anybody have an idea how long an aftermarket shock like kyb-agx, koni, gab, etc. will last on normal streets (not construction sites but not track-like smooth either) compared to stock shocks?

if you ran stock springs on a set of Konis, they'd last about 500,000 miles (exaggeration...), but with higher spring rates (like we normally pair them with), they last much less.

Rally Crossing them will definatly not help with life.....
But, other than Rallying them, shocks should last at LEAST 30,000miles.
The shocks on my Jeep lasted 80,XXX miles but a couple of offroading adventures made shure that 80,000 was all that they would last. Now a model T gets better ride quality than me. I need ta get ta fixin thems!

Good thing about Konis is that u can get them revalved and stuff like that... I uhh... guess... they can "revive" them for a pretty penny. :D
Koni's can be revalved for around 100 bucks. I like Bilstein for street cars that see some track use. Why? because of their design and construction. The rod and piston are about twice as thick as any other manufactuer, they can be rebuilt if needed, they tend to last a long time and the their HD line has a comfortable sporty rate that work well with sportline type springs with H&R or Eibach.
I will be gettinga set for our 328 when the OEM finally decide to blow, should be pretty soon (hopefully!)
