View Full Version : Overheating - Top hose leak???
Car: 95 S17 Stock KA
Coming home from work tonight my car started to overheat bad. I was able to get it home by coasting with the engine off in neutral.
Anyways, when I popped the hood I heard hissing coming from around the intake manifold area. I think it may be the top radiator hose, but are there any other lines/hoses around that area that I should check/replace?
Thanks in advance.
Replaced the top hose today, lets see how that goes.
I just noticed there are two small lines under the intake manifold that connect to the spot the top rad hose does. How do you get to those damn little shits!?

You will have to remove your intake manifold to get to those smaller coolant lines. Hopefully you won't have to do that.

Keep an eye on the coolant hoses. If the upper radiator hose was factory it could have very well been bad. If there is more leaking though, you can find it out by looking for kind of like a greenish kurtled powder by the hose. Was your fluid level low for sure? It could also be the water pump. Do you know the temp range that it was running in?

Shit. I hope not.

Yeah, the radiator was pretty empty. I know its not the radiator and water pump.

how do you know it's not the radiator? was the radiator full before it overheated. you might want to fill your radiator and bleed the air out of the cooling system. see if that helps
Because the radiator was replaced not too long ago and so was the waterpump.

did you burp the system. air pockets in your cooling system will cause you to over heat. add more coolant mixture and bleed your system. that hissing sound is probably air escaping from your coolant lines.
All is well for now, drove it today to work and back with no problems. I'll continue to monitor though. My Greddy MSS gives me accurate readouts on the temp.
