View Full Version : Am I the only one who find the EVO VIII Ugly

After looking at pics of the EVO VIII for the first time, I just realised something... It's UGLY.

http://a137.g.akamai.net/n/137/3538/20030103220532/www.cars.com/features/autoshow2003/coverage/la/images/04_mitsubishi_lancer_evo_front_425.jpg

For one the grill is too big, and the bumper looks odd to me, to many curves I guess, looks kinda liek a fish. Another thing is the tail lights, don't have a pic of em, but for those who have seen a pic, you know why I don't like em.

http://www.cars.com/features/autoshow2003/slideshow/images/la/03_mitsubishi_lancer_evo.jpg

The side profile looks kinda wierd too. I have to say the EVO fell off on looks after VI, which to me was the best looking one.

I don't really like the front end, either.

I agree with you on that but I had just assumed that the new EVO VIII was going to be ugly anyways. I mean just look at all these fugly cars that are coming out.

Not all new cars are ugly, most are, but some like G35 Coupe, Mazda 6, Protege looks nice, BMWs (minus the Z4), Mercedes, Sentras, 350Z and Audis are good looking.

It seems European, I'll narrow it down some more and say German cars are the way to go. Those are the only cars in my mind consistently keeping performance, and looks up, but prices are the same, but you get what you pay for.

I'm not saying that all new cars are ugly, just a good majority of them.

Have you seen the new Cavalier's rear end?

OMG, it's not very attractive at all--with that HUGE Chevy symbol in the middle of it.

I also strongly dislike the look of the '04 Maxima. Too Altima-on-steroids-ish. I love the new Altima's, and I love the '02-'03 Maximas, but mixing the two will be a big mistake for Nissan (in my opinion).

A lot of new cars these days are getting too funky-looking. Too wanna-be-aggressive, too square-lined. And the tail-lights on most new cars are horrid.

Is that what you are talking about. The front looks like the cav had sex with a tiburon.

Also the C6 concept looks like ****.

Same with the new Mustang.

yeah, I'd definately get a WRX STi over the EVO VIII. I really like the frontend change that subaru did for the new year on the wrx's.

I hate what they did with the WRX, the bumper looks fine, but the headlights look like the WRX dropped the soap in a jail full of neons (I will avoid using crossbred/mixed as much as possible :D ).

I loved how the previous Gen WRXs looked especially in white, or even blue or black with gold rims.

The new WRX is another car on my list where the looks fell off.

i think all the new cars coming out are ugly too.. well.. the redeisnged japanese supercars.. i dont lik how the 350z and rx8 look lik.. i hope the new supra and skylines if they decide to make a r35 dont look ugly lik the rx8 and 350z..

there are still some nice lookin vehicles on the market.. i lik the imprezzas and celicas.. and.. um.. i think thats about it.. though.. the only new car i'd even consider would be an imprezza.. (awd turbo.. mm ;) ) id get a celica too.. but only b/c of its looks.. its fwd and well. yea..

that new evo looks different.. i loved the evo V's body the most.. the evo VIII's front is weird lookin.. they need to cut that mitsu emblem off the front or make it smaller..

I think that it's sexy as hell. No its not a EVO VI or even V for that matter but overly aggresive rally styling is not what I would want to drive everyday. I may just be getting old but when I go to work I don't want to look like an idiot rolling up in a rally inspired street car. Why? Because after spending 30k on a car I sure as hell am not going to beat the $h1t out of it off road so why make it look like I would.
cliffs notes:
New WRX sexy
New EVO sexy

Maybe I am just so happy that we get cool cars and as soon as we get cool cars people find a way to find something to complain about

I just got back from the NAIAS last night and I thought the EVO looked sweet. Too bad I couldn't sit in it. The wing on the back is nice and I like the carbon fiber. The car itself starts at $30K. I think I'd rather just buy a 350Z.

My feelings exactly.

Oh man, that Aston Martin is beautiful... like really, really beautiful!

Re: EVOs and WRXs ... I find the EVO VIII to be awkward looking. the body looks a lot like the current US- spec Lancer, except with a big front bumper and a sporty rear end. I don't mind the front so much as I can't stand the altezza tails, but even the front looks fishy.
I find the EVO VII to look the best so far of all the evos, simply because it's understated. The evo Vs and VIs were a little too fancy-shmancy looking, with all those vents and scoops. Not that many of them weren't functional, just that it was a little too much for a street car.

WRXs... I don't know why so many people hated the bug-eyed WRX. Granted, stock headlights did look a little funny, but when you put on a set of the STi headlights, the whole car seemed to change.
I don't like the 2004 WRX headlights nor do I like the hoodscoop; the lights look like a legacy B4 (which most of you probably have never seen...) and the hood scoop is too aggressive/large. It slants over like a breaking wave, which is just a gay designer trying to make his car look macho.

It's a shame, the EVO VII was pretty hot. Not quite overdone, just aggressive and simple. Honestly, I could have totoally seen myself with a lightweight package EVO VII in a few years after seeing one at the autoshow. I cannot see myself in an EVO VIII ever in my life. Am I alone in thinking the new mitsu corporate identity looks a lot like an inverted Aztek?

And it's not just the J-bodies that took a crap lately, it's all of GM (Z06 excluded, but then again, I have never considered vettes to be GM in quality, well, except the interior, yuck).

The Evo and WRX are both nothing but muscle cars for the new millenium. They have great performance, but are otherwise based on ugly cars that have nothing to do with sports. What do you expect from a car whose pedigree includes a $12,000 car?

350z vs. Evo - that's not fair. It would be like comparing an old Corvette with a GTO. One is a sports car, the other also comes in a cheaper than median price base model that seats 4 (or 6 in the case of the GTO).

But I still think the Evo will be so much better looking than the WRX... god that thing's ugly [/personal opinion]

I like the EVO's taillights :o
The front sucks but thats why theres an aftermarket.

The EVO looks too bulky or better yet....PORKY. When I look at it I'm not thinking about "Japanese rally car", which is something I get when I look at the WRX or EVO VI.

A good car is one that looks very nice (or sexy) in its stock form.....such as the upcoming Carrera GT.

also this car......:D

I think WRC is considered a sport. The new Evo VIII should have gotten the Evo VII front. The WRX STI looks sweet

I think the new WRX looks sweet, too. The headlights look a lot better than the older ones.

ca18guy...I totally agree!

When I see new cars on the market, I look at what kind of potential they have, not what they look like right off the showroom floor. In my opinion, there are very few cars right off the assembly line that look perfect and couldn't be improved with a little aftermarket restyling.

The Evo 8 for example...
271hp, 281 ft/lbs (I think), and AWD!!! now that's a hell of a car!

It doesn't have the most attractive front end, but it's nothing a few aftermarket body parts wont fix.

That is a damn FINE car;) :D

I would defenitly purchase the new Evo VIII!
Only thing I would change is the stupid Altezza style taillights, the VII and VIII look interchangeable, and that busy looking front bumper.

Also we get the horrible Evo VIII that doesnt comes with the 6 speed and Active Center Differential and Active Yaw Control.

I hate the American portion of Japanese car companies, they always seem to screw us over it seems
