So my English teacher told our class today that we need to bring in a book to read every Friday. There aren't really any requirements it just can't be a something that is small like 50 pages. I am not a big fan of Science Fiction. But I do like books that deal with history, cars, etc. That being said does anyone have any recommendations on a good book to read?

Lord of the Flies is always a good read. Wiseguy was an interesting book. The Godfather in my opinion is a must read. 10x better than the movie. The things they carried is a great book about vietnam war. If you liked the movie fight club, then anything by Palahniuk.

Edit: lol busted beat me to the Palahniuk recommendation.

I have read 1984 and Slaughter House Five.
I just read a summary of Invisible Monsters, that seems like an intense book, might be a good choice.
House of Leaves sounds pretty good too.
What do you guys think about Charles Bukowski? Good author?

Thanks for the recommendations guys, keep 'em coming.

If you like adventure and shit Clive Cusslers books are all pretty bomb. Just avoid the cowritten books, they suck for the most part. Dale Brown is also bomb as fuck for military / adventure type shit.

I like to read. A lot.

GO ahead and buy yourself a "Machinery's Handbook"

I have the 25th Edition, and I think the newest is the 27th edition.
Best money I've ever spent. This has everything you've ever wanted to know about anything Mechanical, Welding, Threads, bolts, nuts, saws, drills, taps, dies, taper, bushings, bearings, loads, Mathematical formulas, Modulus Tinsil strenght, Metal properties, plastics, woods,..... Tolerances.

I mean this is the Ultimate TECH Persons bible. This thing has all the knowlege of Technology within the last hundred years and up to today's most recent technology and information!

This is one book that I use over and over for simple questions like...hmmm...what to use when cutting this roll cage tubing?

Hmm..Mild steel...4040 stainless...or Chromology.... Interesting..

Definitely not science fiction. =)

Great book. It has really dark humor like Chuck Palahniuk's work.
