Hey Guise:
So the story goes, I have a chuki 180sx with a kouki (finned block)redtop sr20det. So of you might recall I bought ray's turbo and head set up.
Well the head if from a s14 or s15 black top. I am assuming all sr20det parts are interchangable, but I have some Q's?
1.) I just wanna check and ask if the blacktop head I bought off him is a direct bolt onto my redtop head?
2.) Also, will I get the VTC feature?
3.) I think the valve covers bolts on differently (so I wont be able to use my red valve on the blacktop head), can anyone confirm?

edited - forgot to mention his blacktop is from a s14 or s15.

So you're just trying to put a blacktop head on a redtop block...correct? iirc s14 sr's had the vtc not s13 sr's but the blacktop heads do flow better then the red top...iirc lol...

no difference in red/blacktop bolt patterns and mounting. s14 srs g=had the vtc and are identified by the sloping valve cover, and the hump in the front for the vtc.
From what I recall the s14 head will bolt up, but the intake manifolds are different. Also good luck on trying to get the vtc to work.

Ugh hey sorry guise forgot to mention the blacktop is from an s14 or s15 sr20det.
And yes I am trying to put the s14/15 head onto my s13 block.

S14 and s15 heads are different. I would just stick with an s13 head. What is making you set on using this head? Is it port work? Or the vtc? You would loose the vtc anyways on a built engine.

You know, i have heard of framkenstein motors in hondas. Like A H22 head on an H23 Block and rotating assembly, but thats a lil different. I say try it, you might have a great motor set up.

Or you might have a different cam height and collide the valves into the pistons.
Either way fails in approach.

VTC is gone on that head man, If you look at the intake cams, none of them have the VTC sprocket on them.

I don't really care about the VTC feature, just thought it'd be cool to have. No biggie.
More importantly though... ur head will work on my block no probs???

i have a redtop block with a s14 head. i didnt realize it till i yanked the motor out and my friend pointed it out. well it was running perfectly fine internal wise. i just had an oil leak on my front cover, bad turbo, annoying tob. i bought the car like that so i dont know what all it took it mate it but i think its direct bolt in. i will let you know once i take the head off.

You can rock an S14 Block with Red top Head
This guy did it.

Short Blocks are exactly the same with a few small difference, Oil pumps, Oil pick up...

so would you need to change the oil pumps and pick up for it work? I have a zenki s14 blacktop, but I came across a fully built redtop head that I was interested in picking up, how would I make it work?

lol people trying to piece together engines with minimal knowledge of both heads and blocks are fail.
If you dont experiment you will never know... The s14 blacktop head from what I've seen will fit fine, but the vtc will not work thus making it useless to swap over if your intent was to use that head for the particular features it offered.
As far as the head flowing better it's a minimal difference on top of the intake manifold being different between the two motors.
find a bare redtop head, and have headwork done to it, and tell people you thought that would be even cooler to have than a ballsack working off of one nut instead of two.

I remembering reading SE-R guys doing the VTC swap and having it work.
Its simple actually, you would need the MSD control box just like how the honda boys do it.
Let me see if I can find it.
If it works on a FF (Sentra) and it should work on the FR platforms as well.
