s15engine in s13 has power no crank..please help!

Hi guys,
I just dropped my s15 engine in my 92 coupe. Having problem with
trying to get the car to crank/start. I have power but no cranking/starting?
I have been double checking everything. Cant seem to really find the problem.
Ive checked voltage going to the starter-12v at starter.
Battery terminals are tight.
Ground wire for starter is connected.
When i turn the key to turn the engine on i hear the fuel pump kick on and
a couple of relays click.
Tried beating the starter to see if it might be stuck.
Installed new fuel pump.
Any suggestions?

ok for one. it isn't a fuel problem if you have no crank..meaning that your engine won't turn over. try hotwiring your starter to see if it works or not. Take it off the car and put a 12 volt source to it so see if it turns on. Maybe you have a bad starter relay..

yeah if its not even cranking theres a problem with starter or your wiring is f'd most likely. could also be relays or ign switch.

i would say that percentage would be based on WHO did his wiring...

I would say test the wiring and the starter before you spend any money. also, try a new battery that you know is 100 percent working. your battery could have 12v but very low cranking amps.

Ok ill try taking the starter off and seeing if its even spining if i jump it.

I would do what he said make sure you know for sure that your battery is fully charged. If it doesnt have enough cranking amps it will not give full power to the starter and it will make everything power on as if it was a full powered battery.

Make sure you have good engine grounds

Check starter with 12volts and jumped it. Starter works. checked voltage going to the starter relay or interlock switch. Have 12v going to the relay. Noticed starter relay does not click when trying to turn key. Replaced starter relay with a known good relay of another 240. Still in the same situation. Checked system with known 100% good battery out of my Scion. Stilll the same outcome power but no start. Any other suggestions before i pull the harness off? Thanks!

something got mis-wired in the two power plugs inside the passenger fender area

Try this:

You have plugged everything in, but the engine does not crank when you turn the key. Here are a few things to double check:
- The Main engine harness does NOT need to be in place for the engine to crank. - The Lower engine harness MUST be in place in order for the engine to crank. - Make sure all power and ground connectors are connected and tightened.

Most of the problems with this simptom are simple. The cause of the problem is likely to be one of the following: - Loose Starter power connection. - Loose Starter ground connection. - Drained Battery.

For Automatic cars: Clutch interlock switch may be OPEN. The clutch interlock switch plug is usually located at the top of the engine bay fuse box. It is a two-wire plug with a black/yellow and black (or White) wire in the plug.

There are two possible solutions to this issue: - Connect the two wires in the plug. or - Run each of the wires to the clutch pedal switch, which will close when the clutch pedal is fully pressed in.

I wasn't aware the the SR's had clutch pedal switches, at least mine doesn't need to be depressed to start. I would try what Ceepo said above.
