Hi everyone so here is my setup in a nut shell .
s13 blacktop /w t25 and hks actuator
aftermarket elbow
manual boost controller
HKS front mount
Synchronic BOV
walboro fuel pump
z32 fuel filter
I did some research but was still unable to find a solid answer. I am hoping someone here can point me in a better direction. When I am about to get out of vacuum and into boost, it feels as if something is pulling the car back. I experience this hesitation every now and then. My boost gauge reads that I am running and holding 13 psi but yet the car doesn't feel like its moving. My third gear pull feels almost NA. After I push the car a little and let the car idle, it would burn oil(white/blueish color). There is no shaft play and it spools but just no power. I do no burn oil on acel or decel and I have no blow by so that eliminates the valve seals and piston rings. I have a hunch that my turbo seals are going and theres a boost leak? Before I replace the turbo, I would like to see what you guys think. Please let me know and thanks in advance.

If you are hitting full boost in the appropriate amount of time and the turbo spools up properly, why would you suspect the turbo or a boost leak?

check your timing

If I do some spirted driving and let the car idle afterwards. Within 1 minute or so I'll see a bunch of smoke coming out of the exhaust. It will last for like 10 seconds. The smoke had a blue tint in it which means its burning oil. Correct me if I'm wrong but this usually means its my turbo seals no?
check your timing
ok will do, I'll dig out the timing gun.

okay that makes sense, but if you are saying that you "aren't getting power" but the boost is building and holding properly, then the turbo is functioning well (that doesn't mean the seals aren't on their way out though)

Check to see if your ecu is throwing any codes, someone correct me if im wrong but if the ecu goes into safe mode it retards the timing to protect the motor?

^^^dis is true. my RB did a very similar thing cuz it had a bunk knock sensor
EDIT: doesn't explain burning oil tho

Good Job Daniel!
SoguRacing is right, sounds like bad base timing and a little blow by to boot on decel.

That is true. What I have tried is setting the wastegate with no preload that is practically open when I give it some gas. I am not sure if my thought process is right but since there was practically no load on the turbo, that day the car was slow but the car did not smoke. So which leaves me to believe that my burning oil issue is related to the turbo. The hestitation I get is inconsistant. I would get it on some days and I would not get it on others. What do you think it could be?

Good point. My check engine light didn't come on.

Yea thats why i'm so stumped on this problem. Its kinda amusing at times because I see people behind me close their windows as they get swollowed up by my smoke.

ok I'll give it a try. Hopefully its something simple.

the check engine light won't go on for all the codes. this is true in the case of a bad knock sensor you won't know until you pull the codes off the ecu.
1. Check base timing
2. Pull codes
3. Report back to us

ok so I check the timing and it was good. I had a spare t25 laying around so i swapped it out. I am not burning oil anymore and the car actually pulls. The only thing is if i rev it a little i get some black smoke which means i'm running rich. Is this normal with no cat and at 13psi?

If its just gas being spit it out that means your essentially safe, but rich. Do you get it in between shifts? Just revving sitting there?

i have no cat, a t25 running ~13 psi and i spike to much more (old wastegate) and i dont' get any black smoke. i don't believe i'm running lean or rich.
did your old turbo's turbine spin freely?
your symptoms seemed like a slipping clutch, or yoru clutch wasn't fully engaging, but i guess that's wrong...
buuuuuuuuuuut....what kind of boost gauge do you have, where is the boost source?
maybe your'e not really running 13 psi and your gauge is lying.

The smoke doesn't look really really black. Its like a lighter hint of it. Its when I idle the car and rev it a little is when it spits out a little black smoke. I dont know about in between shifts. I'll have to have a friend follow me.

Yea the turbine was spinning. I'm going to take apart the old turbo to see what was bad. There was actually a little shaft play. I'm running a defi boost gauge and my boost source is on one of the ports on the throttle body.

So after all I'm still experiencing the hesitation/studder when i get into boost. Sometimes its more noticeable then others. I let the car idle for like 10 mins and did a compression test and got 140,140,135,130. Are these numbers fine? They seem a little lower then what I expected. I checked the timing when it was warmed up and it was fine.

oww i think i know...umm try your spark plugs...look at them and see if they need replacing with newer or better ones..id go with NGK iridium or something like that...
