View Full Version : Conversion naming

Alright, I hope I ask this question the right way, so here goes.
There are a lot of conversions for the 180sx/240sx were the front end is switch out for a different version or body.
For example:
Silvia front end + 180sx body = Sil-80 or Sil-eighty
180sx front end + Silvia rear end = One-via or 1-via.
From this example, it seems that what is in front of the car is the 1st part of the name and what is in back or main body is the 2nd part of the name.
So, here is my confusion.
For example:
s14 or s15 front end + s13 back end = s14.3 (according to above)
but i have seen instances where someone would call them s13.4 or s13.5
I have seen examples of:
s13 front end + s14 rear = s13.4 and the next person calls it s14.3
so my question is:
Which number comes 1st, the front of the car
or the main part/rear of the car.

"Sileighty" was a marketed name, everything else was just made up. Therefore S13.XXXX and S14.XXXX sound pretty stupid in daily conversation.
Basically, when it comes to the "fanboy" names for the latter conversions:
The Chassis usually comes first, then they add the number from whatever front end they are using.
Don't forget Sky-via, One-Line (Also a marketed name), and that Z33-180sx-G35 creation, among MANY others.

Thank You. You are the 1st person to answer my question without flaming me.

So what would you call a 240sx or 180sx with a 240Z front end?
s13.30 or maybe 240SZ?
Thanks again

How about a "240SX with [chassis] front end"?
If you're in a market where it was a Silvia, 180SX or 200SX, then replace "240SX" in that sentence with that.
This name/chassis code soup fanboy shit is VERY annoying, in my opinion.

you either have [chassis] or you have [model name] if you swap the engine or dashes you don't change the name of the vehicle so why would you if you swap body parts?
IMO the "sil80" "1-via" "s13.4" etc. are just nick-names for common conversions. Honestly I don't see any problem with using them because they're easy to say/type and people generally know what you're talking about. Similar to saying you have a "pig-nose" "chuki" or "kouki" it's easier to use the one short phrase that explains exactly what you mean than spelling it out every single time.
If you're doing a conversion that no one else has done before then you can call it whatever the hell you like. It's your baby... YOU name it.
Then again I'm the kind of guy who completely strips all of the badges off of my car and never gives them pet names so...

S13.4 is a lot easier to say then it is to say a S13 coupe with a S14 front end.
I use the terms out of convenience.

The real question is
What ever happened to having a 240sx with a stock 240sx front end? They're becoming more and more rare.

If its an s13 240sx (not 180sx), with an s13 silvia front end, it has to be a Samuel L Jackson.
LMAO.

i have a 2.35L sr stroker in my car and now i call it a 235sx because the 240sx gets it's name from the displacement. just like if you were to put a ca18 in a 240 it is a 180sx or sr with silvia front then it is a silvia if it is a coupe or the frankencar "sileighty" with a silvia front on a 180sx
