Now before you tell me to search, I searched and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for.
I'm torn between a 95-96 240sx and a chev truck. I love the 240sx and I don't plan on doing the SR swap, but I'm looking into maintence and dependability and overall reilability. I live in New Brunswick CANADA, and does anyone think it would be hard for me to get mine fixed? Would the nisan dealer know anything? Like my sister's GSR never breaks down, and she can get her car fixed anywhere, so I was thinking what about mine? I want to be able to get it fixed if something goes wrong, but I don't have the tools myself.

What should I do?

i recommend a 240sx - i bought mine used at 55k miles and now mine has 106k- and it works wonderfully- the only repairs it ever needed was to get tires and rims.. thats it! no other problems- just proper maintenance and it runs like a baby ;) my 0.02

Well, there is no timing belt, but a timing chain which u don't have to change at all. I had some problems with my car, but fixed everything myself, and i didn't know jack about cars just a year ago. Working on a 240sx isn't really that hard, although i'm thinking chevy truck will be easier to fix if something goes wrong. Still, if there is no real need for the truck, id recommend getting a 240.

Remember that you're buying used and not new. While some people have had flawless histories with their 240's (like mine), others are bound to have trouble. Much of this stems from the owner you buy it from. If it was well cared for and you take care of it, chances are you'll have few problems and can get by with routine maintenance.

Now keep in mind that 240's were never very high volume cars so you may or may not get a tech experienced in 240's (I mean it's still a basic car, but diognosing problems becomes more difficult when you don't come across them everyday). It's not like a senta or altima which someone is likely to see on a daily basis. The flip side of this is with message boards like zilvia and freshalloy, it's likely many of us have already dealt with whatever problem you are having.

what kind of chevy you want? the 240 is reliable and fun to drive, and if you get a truck you gonna be spending more $$ in gas.

if you're just worried about reliability you should try to buy the newest car you can affort. I like the newer chevy truck(at least 99) extended cab.

I love your car!
Really Nice.
Trucks are awesome, are pretty sweet. Only if theu're done up. Like I mean 36" tires, full exhaust, 8' lift, the whole deal. And it has to be 4WD, nothing but. If I was gonna get a truck it would have to be under $10 G's Canadian. I don't wanna spend that much more for the 240 either. So, I'll probably stick to the 240sx and live it up!

I have a ford escort and a 240sx. The Escort has never given me one bit of trouble and I am hard as hell on that car. The 240 however has given me alot of headaches, however all of them were self inflicted. I did an engine swap on the car knowing next to nothing and having no one to help me with it. And now I can tell you just about everything on that car and where it goes and what it does. Its a VERY excellent car and out of all the cars Ive had and driven it wins them all, even my dads 350z isnt as fun as my 240 I dont think (probably cause Im not allowed to touch the 350).
But this I can tell you. I bought my 240 for $2000. It was a 1990 with the SOHC engine in it. when I bought it, it had all the papers for all the things that had been done to it, and its a pretty small stack. The oil wasnt changed as often as I would have liked and the clutch had been replaced, but it had the origanal engine in the car and the odometer read 250,000 with that little repair. In my opinion, go with the 240. Hell man if you get a hatchback theres about as much room in the rear as some pickups :)

Holy.... what escort? GT? LX? Your story is pretty much like mine. I drove my escort for about 2 years right after i got my liscense. Then got a 240sx. The 240 doesn't give me lotsa ****, but when it does, its major. The escort only has one problem going on: the friggin heater core keeps busting. Replaced twice and i think it's leaking again. The odometer on the escort just got over 100K miles. I have no clue about that car and i figured out alot about my 240 alrdy.

Hmmm does it have to be that particular truck?

I have seen people get those Nissan Hardbody Trucks and put SR20's in them.

So I'm probably going to go with the 240, but what about insurance? Is it cheaper for 4cyl?
