2 Engines I am damned confused

Hey this is a quick question. Are there 2 different engines in the S13 US. I have seen 12 Valve SOHC and 16 Valve DOHC. I was just wondering what year did the 16 come into view and were they only on the SE models. Thanks

'89 and '90 had the SOHC engine, 140(?) hp 12v
'91+ had DOHC engines, 155hp 16v
Oh yea. The engine and tranny are exactly the same in any trim level. Suspension and options get better are the trim goes up though.
