Hey which turbo would best suit a ka thats going to have a top mount manifold and 550cc injectors.

I know the s14 t28 spools up fast because of the ball bearing and the rb turbo spools up fast too because it is cermic.

I heard the rb turbo falls apart after 1.1 bar(most likely never gona run that much) and get ceramic pieces in the motor..:eek3:

I found the s14 t28 for $50(needs a build) and the rb t28 for $100(needs a rebuild also)

I love my s14 t28. Spools up really fast, sounds great, and pulls super hard.

Ball bearing turbos arent exactly the easiest or cheapest to rebuild, unless its just the seals.

The S14 t28 is bottom mount FYI.
Pretty sure the R32 t28 is also...iirc.

If youre going top mount, go all out with something bigger.

Rb26 has twin turbos...so it takes two to reach the 1 bar of boost youre talking about.

what are you talking about...

it doesnt need 2 to reach 1 bar of boost.
it can be easily attained with one.

As a matter of fact, too easy.. Which is why Nissan put parallel twin turbos on an RB26, to split the duties.. acting as if it was one big turbo.

The RB spools them with ease though.

For bottom mount, go with the S14 t28.
the RB t28 utilizes a special exhaust housing which requires a skyline turbo elbow.
in other words... the s14 t28 makes everything easier, you can find everything bolt on.

for top mount, i wouldn't recommend a smaller turbo.
Why go through all the work, just for something available as a bolt on.
[a lot of a top mount setup will be custom, unless its a kit]

Pretty sure RB26 Turbos are tiny T25s

The next size up from the T25, the T28 series of turbochargers are more serious items. They are used in twin form on the Nissan Skyline (http://zilvia.net/f/#) GT-R and singularly on the Pulsar GTi-R, S14 and S15 series Silva/200SX. They make a decent upgrade for the S13 series of cars when more than 150kW are reliably expected to be produced.

They have the power output of about an SR T25, even if they are termed T28's.

You do realize a hot upgrade for RB26DETT guys is to use two GT2560R's(S14/S15 T28). They flow much more than the stock RB26 turbos.

So, in short, don't waste your time with an RB26 turbo. And if you're going top-mount, don't waste your time with either.

Make sure you know what kind of rebuild the S14 T28 needs. If it's just the oil seals that've gone out, it might be worth it, but if there's too much shaft play then it's a waste of time and money.

Also realize that the S14 T28 spools super-fast on a 2.0L SR......it'll be all but instantaneous on your 2.4L KA. With your extra displacement you could get away with running a larger turbo without losing much in the way of response.

If you're going top-mount, I'd suggest looking for a T3/T4 and maybe 740s instead of the 550s you're talking about.

In short dont waste money on a s14 t28 that needs a rebuild.

You are buying a compressor and exhaust housing.

You will have to replace the CHRA which is around 1000 usd.

If it's just the seals that are leaking oil and there's minimal shaft play, can't you partially rebuild them and just replace the seals, without replacing the center section?

I'm not sure it'd be worth it anyway, clean T28s are fairly cheap these days...

S14 t28 if it works.. the R33 turbo is too small
