seal everything on the motor off and rinse the thing with simple green/degreaser and then spray it. After that its only a matter of how far do you want to go...

I'm pretty sure that engine and transmission has been cleaned, and then painted, so to add on to what everyone else has said, a degreaser and then you may want to paint the assembly to get it to look that way.

What this guy has said, that engine/trany in the pics you provided has been painted.

i personally do not like when people paint an aluminum block. why would you need to paint it, it is not going to rust like a cast iron block. it is just tacky and a lazy excuse on why not to clean it well. I guess if you want that shiny fake effect, then go for it.

The cleanest motors I have ever seen were either chromed or ceramic coated or painted. I saw an sr that had pretty much everything painted with high temp and all you had to do was hose everything off. Nothing stuck to it.

there is a kid local who took his to HP coatings in bluffdale.
They did the silverfinish coating on it, and it looks like its been polished.
When ya get up close to it you can see the coating, but it looks real good and has that function factor.

He ran stock radiator and mech fan for LONG ass time with it.. And never had problems overheating.

Wash it just like you would the car, weekly, with high pressure. Once it's cleaned well the first time it's not hard to keep clean unless it's leaking shit from every orifice. My old car got an engine bath every time it was washed and always looked brand new, even daily driving it.

there is a spray it shoots out as a foam just cover up your turbo and anythign that you dont want water in and spray down the whole engine bay then after that just rinse off it will degrease and un dirt everything in your engine works wonderssssss

you do not really need to look at the oil pan to tell that its been spray painted. the freeze plugs should be the first sign of a spray painted engine.

i saw this guy use something like this. But it wasnt that foam ball, something more heavy duty. He used simple green, homemade type powerball, and a drill.

Meh, doesnt even look clean, the accessories make it look like shit. Ie Rusty pullys, nasty intake manifold...its aluminum too might as well have sprayed that with silver glitter.

lots and lots and lots of time. (and a lot of brake clean)

a copper wire brush does wonders (steel ones scratch stuff to hell, stay away).

if you use too much brake cleaner on plastics or just stuff other than metal, it starts eating that shit.
so be careful.

Brake cleaner also likes to make plastics hazy, or dry and brittle.

I actually had to do the opposite on my engine bay. Bar and chain oil all over the rust and walls;
