Shakur was gunned down in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas, as he sat in the car of music mogul Suge Knight. Shakur was placed on life support but died six days later, on Sept. 13th, 1996. His murder remains unsolved.

Many considered Shakur a lyrical genius, and also a promising actor. But others saw the late rapper as a troubled young man who fell victim to his own so-called "gangsta" image.

Shakur's reality was a little more complex — his tough-guy public persona was sometimes in stark contrast to some of his most uplifting songs about pride and responsibility.

Since Shakur's death, his mother Afeni Shakur — a former Black Panther activist — has taken control of the release of his archived songs. She has also launched a number of charities in her son's honor, including the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation for the Arts, based in Georgia.

Like other true 2pac fans, im still waiting for some of the original tracks that are still yet to be heard... Still alot of good songs that never made it, instead, the record companies have twisted his post death songs, alot of them are chopped together lyrics that he never said etc.. Like allowing todays flavor of the month artist be mixed into his songs etc which doesnt flow well or sound very period correct. Johnny J said it himself that Pac would have never did a song with some of these guys they put his stuff with *example, Pac's Life with ashanti and T.I , or Eminem producing the Loyal to the Game album*.

R.I.P. Tupac. He left us with years of influential and head boppin music to get us through our days.

Yet people are too scared to talk... How can someone get shot in populated las vegas and have no witnesses, esp after a tyson fight? there had to be tons of people.

i remember seeing the news reports. there were a lot of sides on each end. Tupac blew up so quick if you remember right. he made a lot of money in a very short amount of time, while keepin it real. money and conspiracy covers things up, you should know that bro.

How about this, they were BOTH overrated...
I liked them both, I happened to like Biggie more, seeing as how "Dear Mama" and "Brenda's got a baby" were not what he was known for, he was known for gangsta shit, which he did NOT do before he was in the movie juice.
Biggie was a story teller, but his untalented entourage would have FUCKED the whole situation for him, ruining his money and getting him in legal shit, I promise. It's what happens when you maintain loyalties to shitty people. Look where ANYONE around him before he died is now... EXACTLY.
Both were the vanguard of what you "underground" crybabies catch cases of sandy vagina about every time these threads come out. I mean, picture Pac rollin' in his 500 Benz, he's got no love for these n***az, there's no need to be friends. Yes, jewelry, cars and misogyny, all there... Same applies for BIG.
I am not about to sit here and act like it wasn't entertaining, I just find it hilarious the changing of points of view that take place when people think that someone is suddenly more than what they actually were as a result of their having passed away. Not to mention that there is NOTHING tragic about the death of someone who died as a result of the negativity that they chose to bring to themselves. DJ Quik said it best "I ain't no big buff dude, I'ma rap singer." Perhaps Tupac, who happened to LOVE Quik by the way, had lived by that as opposed to some bullshit "Thug Life" he wouldn't have stomped that dude out with 7 friends in that casino, only to be gunned down at the end of the night. Let us not forget that he'd come to realize that movie feature money beats the SHIT out of being raped on publishing and shitty royalty points on albums that don't sell THAT great.
If Pac hadn't died, LL Cool Jay would not have been in NEAR as many movies as he has been.

woah woah its not a big vs pac thread.
this thread is just to commemorate his life after his passing. At the time of his death, sure at 11-12 i wasnt able to buy cds and what not and didnt have cable tv so all i heard of his music was on the radio which at the time they only played california love, gangsta party, i get around, dear momma and the likes. Maybe til highschool i started listening to his albums and liked his lyrics. First cd i bought was greatest hits *when your a kid and being that was a 2 cd set, better bang for the buck*. Really deep stuff, helped motivate me get thru alot of BS and keep me hyped. when Napster blew up, searching with keywords "2pac unreleased" i found alot of golden songs that never made it.

Yah he had his flaws, he did have a big ego and probably took alot of other rappers too serious at the time, beefing with everybody. but his real music is legendary. A young man who made some wrong moves in his final years.

Its just the media and even his mother have been milking off his career and depicting him as the messiah. I can understand people might say hes overrated.. esp when hes the center of jokes esp from the likes of Dave Chappele and what not.

Sean Combs, or Puffy, is the owner of Bad Boy Records. He approached Tupac in a bid to sign him to Bad Boy in 1994, Tupac declined the offer. Tupac then signed for DeathRow records, run by Puffy's arch enemy Suge Knight. Because of this, and the fact Bad Boy are reportedly funded by the Black Mafia, and that Sean Combs was also in the studio in NY where Tupac was shot, it is thought Tupac was shot because of this declination. Tupac was shot and robbed in the entrance of the building and then got himself into the elevator. He went up to the floor where everybody was partying. Tupac said that Puffy looked shocked when he saw Tupac, as if he had seen a ghost. Tupac thought that Puffy also knew about the set up and was angry because Puffy denied it. While Tupac was in jail, Puffy wanted to make peace with him by sending him a letter, giving him props like "Hey Pac, keep your struggle on", when Tupac was released, he immediately began to diss Puffy. Aslo Tupac saw Puffy as a fake, he wasnt a Gangster, he didn't write his own lyrics, his flow was weak, his beats were ripped, but he portrayed the opposite to the public!

Thats The notorious BIG, Puff Daddy now P. Diddy, Junior Mafia, and others smaler acts. Tupac accused them to have set him up or didn't warn him in the 1994 NY shooting. Before this time, Tupacs relationship to BIG was pretty good, they recorded some songs like "Runnin'" etc. and the chilled out together. Tupac never talked about BIG or Puffy in his early songs, he just started dissing Bad Boy after he was in jail for the sex trial in '94. He went to jail and Bad Boy got bigger as Tupac had to hear about the circumstances of his shooting from jail. The Junior Mafia beef was the same too except Tupac knew them well. He said in an interview that he used to support them and Biggie and give the members of Junior Mafia money to get home on the train. The notorious BIG was shot in March 1997 in a drive by shooting in Los Angeles. BIG's "Live After Death" is still the best selling rap album ever, it has sold more then 10 million copies.

The 2Pac LL Cool J beef also started in late '95. He even praised LL in the song "Old School" on Me Against the World for his early songs. But 2Pac thougt LL Cool J went mainstream and acted like a Thug. He also had a album produced by Puff Daddy. Tupac has an unreleased song called "Little Homies" where he disses LL Cool J.

This was kind of a strange rivalry because Tupac and Dre were thought to be close especially after California Love. I have heard three points of view on this though. Tupac says it was because Dre wasn't doing anything at Death Row and was taking credit for other people's work. Tupac didn't like him for this and also for the fact that Dre never appeared at Snoop's trial to support him although it seems that Tupac was more upset over this than Snoop. Dre never really commented on it except he said that Tupac and him never hung out and Tupac didn't know him so he shouldn't be dissing him. The final story on this was really shocking and came from Suge Knight in an interview which can be seen on the Thug Immortal video. Suge Knight doesn't name names but he basically says that Dre is gay and that Tupac didn't want him to be a part of Death Row because Dre had a lover working for him while he was married with children. I suggest watching this interview for the full story but this is consistent with Tupac calling him gay on several songs. Specific quotes included "that nigga sittin' up in his mansion suckin' dick, eatin' p*ssy" plus in a number of his songs he says stuff like "we shook Dre punk ass, now we out of the closet" and "check your sexuality it's fruity as this alize" along with "California Love Part II without gay ass Dre."

This beef started when Tha Dogg Pound released New York, New York. Mobb Deep took offense to that and with Tragedy and Capone N Noreaga (two other NYC artists) they released LA, LA. There were 2 versions and one version used that same beat and in both versions the chorus was the same as from NY, NY except for a little change at the end. Now Tupac took offense to that and that's why he dissed Mobb Deep. The only thing I know Mobb Deep to have said before Tupac released Hit 'Em Up was in an article from RapSheet when they were discussing the East/West Coast beef with artists from both sides Mobb Deep said the way Tupac turned on NY was wrong and said they would buy a Snoop album but they would never buy another Tupac album. I think Havoc might have said this. Also, in the "Thug Immortal" interview, Tupac described why he didn't like Mobb Deep. He said that before he went to prison, he was cool with them. Then when his West Coast crew came to NY to Mobb Deep's concert, Mobb Deep ignored them. He said his crew tried to meet up with them after the show yelling "Thug Life", but they dissed them. What made Tupac even madder was that one of the guards he knew in prison also knew Mobb Deep, so after Tupac told the guy to tell Mobb Deep that his boys were coming, he took it as an insult when they dissed them. Then Tupac came out with Hit 'Em Up...called Prodigy out about his sickle cell anemia and that's when Mobb Deep responded with Drop A Gem On 'Em which appeared on their new album. Since Tupac's death, Mobb Deep has shown a lot of respect for him though.

Not much to say, Jay-Z dissed Pac on the "Reasonable Doubt" album on the song "Brooklyn's Finest." Then Tupac dissed Jay Z back on "Bomb First." This song pointed at the beef with Jay-Z coming from him sticking up for Mobb Deep. Tupac also disses Jay-Z on his newest album "Until the end of time" on the Song "All Out"

Due to faults of his own, Nas got caught up in the East vs Westcoast beef. Which of course Tupac wouldnt of liked as it initially had nothing to do with Nas. Tupac and Nas met each other at the House of Blues, where Tupac and Nas talked about this whole beef situation. Tupac told Nas that he was in no way involved and that he should not get caught up in it because he and Death Row had nothing but love for him. But then, Tupac listened to Nas' songs and he remarked that there was a song, "The Message", in which Nas was talking about fake thugs and it sounded as if Nas was talking about Tupac. Nas also liked to talk a lot about Thug Life after Pac introduced it to the whole world, which pissed Tupac off because he was the man to represent it. Tupac accused Nas of biting his style and stealing his life for his songs. Nas even has a tattoo in the same place of Tupac's, and wore no shirt, like pac, and wore his bandana in a similar way to pac in the video for 'Hate Me Now'. Tupac dissed Nas on songs like "Against all Odds" and in interviews, such as the interview about Death Row East. But after Tupac's death Nas claimed they squashed their beef, which isnt proved, and even featured on 'Thugz Mansion' on Tupac's posthumus album 'Better Dayz'. Snoop said on an MTV Documentary that what he hates most is rappers coming out and doing rhymes with Tupac knowing that when he was alive he hated them, probably referring to Nas.

This all started when a small time New Jersey rapper, Chino XL, followed on from rumours, started by Wendy Williams, of Tupac been raped in jail. He says on his track 'Riiot!': "I'm trying not to get fucked like 2Pac in jail." Which of cause is a straight up diss of Tupac. In a radio interview Tupac addressed him stating, "Off the air, I'm gonna beat this niggaz ass", and also on the song 'Hit Em Up' with "Chino XL, Fuck You Too!" Chino responded in some songs, including a several minute long freestyle on a New York radio. In my opinion Chino XL first said what he did to get his name known in the rap game, by dissing the biggest artist in it, Tupac. We all no beef can make you famous and sells records. After Tupac's demise Chino stated: "I got a chance to see him on Venice Beach one time right before he passed and I let him know that if I would have known my lyrics would have upset him like that, I would have never said it. I mean I was a fan of his like everybody else was. Everything was straight though and The Outlaws are my peeps from Jersey so it was all peace."

C. Deloris Tuker Miss C. Deloris Tuker was a Gangster Rap activist. Basically she wanted Rap to not only be consored but banned altogether. He disses her in 'Wonda Why they Call u Bitch' of the 'All Eyez On Me' album, saying "Dear Ms. Deloris Tucker, keep stressin me, fuckin' with a mutha fuckin mind, I figured you wanted to know, you know, why we call them hoes bitches,and maybe this might help you understand, it ain't personal,strictly business baby, strictly business!" She then claimed this song "ruined her sex life", and sued the estate of Tupac on those grounds. He released the song while he was alive, and she waited until he died to sue, very cowardly?
