hey kids! i saw this really cool grounding wire kit and import tuner tested it on a car and got like 5 or something horsepower from using it. would grounding wires really make a difference? im thinkin of buying a kit for myself. holla

are you really being serious?

This one isn't quite mixed well enough ;-)

Unless you've got serious grounding problems, then a grounding kit isn't really going to do much for you.

HOWEVER!!! If it looks slick. . . and mebbe glows or something. . . or is labelled VTEC. . . or gives you blow jobs. . . Then get that thing, boi!

I dare say you got those responses because you read it in import tuner. That's a silly magazines for 14 year olds who still dream of their driving permits and who want to pimp out mom's saturn wagon.
What I/we mean is that you shouldn't believe everything you read, especially if you read it in import tuner, super street, or turbo.

That said, grounding kits will help some, more than anything they'll probably make things run smoother and things like headlights/stereos/electronics brighter or clearer, but other than that, I can only imagine a "smoother" rev and the slight possibility of 1 or 2 hp.

I just read in superstreet this mourning that they projected a 8wrhp difference when they put the kit one. Hmm i wonder how much they were payed to say that ?

i believe that there is a gain when installing this kit. but the problem is that they don't take a brand new car and do it.

what they need to do is use the same car, replace all the same parts the kit does with OEM parts, dyno, then put the kit on and dyno again. while it probably does work to some degree, gains over good OEM parts are probably minimal.

that said, honda-tech guys are pretty big advocates of these things as far as i can tell (the type-R guys).

Grounding kits are kinda like replacing plugs/wires, all you're really getting is the power you somehow lost over time in the 1st place.

The bigger benefit, is that, tho everyone agrees your car will run smoother afterword, it also has fixed some of the surging problem people occasionally have with their 240s. That said, there's no reason not to just make one yourself and benefit from smoother idle and better conductivity.

How much power were these cars making when they saw a 5hp gain? Sure iridium plugs may help gain you a few hp, but the claim is also made on a highly tuned 800 hp supra. I'm sure an upgraded ignition system might benefit from unpgraded grounding, but I highly doubt the most gains for your money on a mostly stock car are going to come from such a mod. I'd guess a good tune up to be worth more of your time and your money for the long term gains in reliabilty.

hey mixedwell, i did a post on this a long time ago, about grounding wires. do a search and you'll find it, if you want detailed information. heres a lil quick cliff notes on what i posted

do not waste your money on grounding wire kits, they arent that big of a hype like you think. go out to ur local electronics and replace your ground with gauge 4 wires. and that should work. like Tnord stated about honda-tech, some people at team-integra did this. they have a write up on the Gauge 4 wire ground. if you want join the club and just read about that.

good luck

I was reading the Japanese Option2 magazine. They were doing a test on the multiple-ground wire from HKS, mine's, M's, etc. They test them on a few cars, R34 ( minor mods ), Silvia S15 ( minor mods ), and S2000 ( minor mods also ), most of them have at least 10 hp gain. I believe they work ... maybe only in Japan .... because they have better gas. If you run octane 100 or 102 with better spark plugs and wire, it make a difference. And I think using some good quality ground wire ( silver/silicon core ), it will help performance. I personally try the R-1 and the HKS on a ITR and only the HKS make a difference, it is not that it give you lots more hp, but it sharpen the response on all rpm.
