Went to have my 95 240sx ka24de smogged last week, the check engine light was on so I knew it would fail but I wanted to see the numbers.
My test results were;
15 mph-HC meas.85 max 88 -CO meas .19 max .52 -NO meas1535max 704
25 mph-HC meas.43 max 53 -CO meas .07 max .50 -NO meas 989 max 738
I found bad vacum lines in egr system and replaced them and disconnected my battery overnight last Thurs. and my check engine light went out and has stayed out for 3 days!
Today I ran a can of seafoam through my intake,changed plugs and air filter, and on the way home my check engine light came back on !!!
Could the seafoam have done something to cause this ? possibly to my O2 sensor ?

Read the codes...
Go to a local auto parts place, or pull the ECU and read them yourself (use the diagnostic screw on the side, search here for instructions).
Go from there.
Be aware that even once the light is off, the ECU may not show as 'ready' by the smog place. It needs a certain number of driving cycles to be good-to-go.

I'm somewhat in the same boat as you my friend. But I had a code for my egr valve, but I got a lot of shit wrong with my car, I need to replace the knock sensor and see if I have a genuine vacuum issue or if it was just my dying alternator that fucked everything all up.

If I disconnect my battery again how long does it take for the check engine light to come back on ?
Stayed off for 3 days before.
I just need enough time to get it smogged !!!!!

Pulled my ecu and checked codes today!
Codes were;
32 - EGR malfunction
34 - Detonation (knock) sensor
76 - Fuel Injection system
I manually pushed up on the bottom of the EGR and the engine tried to die
I applied vacum to the EGR and the engine tried to die
I'm assuming by these tests that my EGR valve is O.K. ?
Should there alwys be vacum present on the line to and from the EGRC-BPT valve?
(I have none)
I don't show a code 36 - EGRC-BPT valve or a code 105 - EGR and canister control valve (Solenoid)
any ideas on what could be wrong with the EGR system ?
Could the bad codes have been caused from the Seafoam?
