on your gas lid it says use premium fuel only... so use premium 91 oct..
NGK plugs are the best...

The engine lasts longer with premium, so dont use any fuel under 91 octane.
NGK plugs ftw :)

what spark plugs do u have at the moment? because i believe newer plugs will increase the nox but if ur current ones suck balls u might as well get new ones

Not looking for better mileage or performance but need to reduce nox !!!
Will higher octane help or hurt?
Will new plugs raise my nox as stated above?
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

a newer spark plug will create a stronger more efficient spark creating a more complete combustion aka higher temperature...
at ambient temperature nitrogen and oxygen will not bond but at higher temperatures they will bond together creating nitrogen oxide (nox)...
but your best bet is to make sure your cat is clean and make sure ur egr (exhaust gas recirculation) because it will recycle exhaust gas back into the engines cylinder lowering the combustion tempertature aka lowering nox
hope this helps
91 octane is the gas you will be wanting to use due to it has a higher tendency to burn than explode as opposed to a lower octane... 91 octane will create a more controlled burn
just curious but what were the results of ur smog test im guessing u had one since u noe to lower nox

91 or if you can get it 93. A more complete burn creates fewer harmful emissions, and nitrogen oxide gases.
Nitrogen oxide is bad. It causes smog when mixed with VOCs, and that gives people with asthma a bad day. Be kind: dont paint cars outside lol.
A good tune up helps. A good cat helps also. Cats convert nirtogen oxide into nitrogen and oxygen (harmless) and co to co2. The better your cat is, the fewer emissions you'll put out.
However, to create a cat produces more toxic waste than a cat will ever take off the road. I am 100% opposed to cats until they can find a way to create them cleaner.

You ever notice why europe and alot of places dont have cats?
I cant remember where I heard it from, but I looked it up. It takes alot of power and creates alot of waste to refine the platinum and palladium, along with the trucks that bring the cats to the car factories, all that good stuff.
I'm also against the prius. To create 1 prius, because of the batteries and what not, creates more pollution than a hummer h2 will ever make in its entire lifetime.

well the point of making a hybrid isnt necessarily for saving the environment haha they just make them so they dont have to pay ridiculous fines for the zev credits haha...but mainly they are creating them to find a better battery and an alternative to petro... i actually learned quite a bit about all the electric zev crap over this summer because i worked at Pheonix Motor cars a new electric sut/suv company

My test results were;
15 mph - HC meas. 85 max 88 - CO meas .19 max .52 - NO meas 1535 max 704
25 mph - HC meas. 43 max 53 - CO meas .07 max .50 - NO meas 989 max 738
I did have a broken vacum line back by the EGR so I replaced all vacum lines I could find.
I am going to run some seafoam through the intake tomorrow.
Will higher octane hurt or help? Will new plugs hurt or help?
What else will help lower my NO ?
Thanks !!!!!!!!!!!

higher octane will help...new plugs will hurt nox but high nox is also a sign of a vacuum leak...since u replaced a vacuum line that maybe have been the problem
after u run seafoam make sure everything is still working correctly ie: o2 sensor , maf
i say just run it with 91 octane and it all depends on what u wanna do with the plugs, i think either using the new or the old wont matter... that is if the egr vacuum line was the problem, which it probably was
i was in the same boat as u...
all i did was replace the bpt and a line and i passed
goodluck and let us know how it turned out

Thanks !!!!
am going to do seafoam today and tune-up
Will re-test Tues. or Wed.
