I saw them on eBay
JDM S13 SILVIA POWER FOLDING MIRRORS, 240SX (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33649&item=2400070934)

I was just windering if anyone had them. I used to have a set on my civic...I wired them so that everytime I turned off the car they would automatically fold in and fold out when I started it. Pointless and prolly a waste of money...but they were fun! :D

Those look neat. Honestly, I don't know why you would need power folding mirrors unless it's to impress your friends

This reminds me of the dude that sold the "JDM S14 gas door" on ebay... IT'S THE SAME DAMN THING. The mirrors fold in manually, the adjustments for the mirror are powered, was that not an option on the S13?

the Japan mirrors also have a motor that "folds" the entire assembly in... very useful feature in Japan where some of the streets are so narrow, we would call them alleys. for most ppl here it'd be a novelty item, but i have to admit i'm glad i have them now. the street i park for work is narrow and i've seen about 5 mirrors broken off so far...

no Japanese tend to be very skinny people. hahahhaha
seriously though Japanese are gadget freaks. If you have ever been to Japan or had a Japanese girlfriend you would know what I am talking about.;)
The smaller the better the more automated the better.
Yes the mirrors are a novelty. At the same time if you live in the city, you tend to get these assholes that literally will almost break your mirror off. If not actually break it off trying to get by your car. They seriously do not give a damn. So having the folding mirror can be nice. Thats why I got them:D
plus I am a gadget freak. hmmmmm I wonder if thats why I like Japanese girls so much. hahahhahahhahaha:p

It has nothing to do with actually PARKING in a narrow space. It's so people can get (walk) by your car without bumping your mirrors once you've parked. If you've ever clocked your head on a truck mirror while walking through a parking lot, you'll kind of appreciate this kind of courteous nicety.

Is it helps to eliminate the Scooter Fags from crashing into your mirror.

Alot of the roads actually force you to park in the left lane, or on the road itself. Those little four inches sticking out really make a difference.

No point in you US guys getting them just to be JDM....

But over here they come in handy.

No, but I've got a totally trick set of USDM folding mirrors. It's sweet, I get out of my car and fold the mirrors in, in the super rare case when 6 inches is going to make any difference (usually when I park it in my garage for a long time so I don't snag a bag on them when I walk by). If you haven't noticed, our roads are REALLY REALLY WIDE compared to the countries where power folding mirrors come standard and 6 inches is the difference between having a mirror when you come back or not. I suppose if you want to spend the time and on this instead of making your car faster or handle better, it's your call. After this you should try to install the electronic climate controls from japan too.

If you guys want these mirrors to function, swap the housings from the JDM & USDM.

Take out JDM internals (mirror & motor),
Take you current USDM and do the same.
Put the JDM internals, into the USDM housing.

"WHY" ?

The housing are aimed different, as you can guess the JDM are aimed for RHD .. nuff said.

If you wanna be really cool you can wire them up to your car alarm and impress the ladies!!!

My question is....if you have the power folding mirrors....and you try to force them in by hand, will it strip the gears inside the assembly?

well, for me, i know once i parked my car at the mall, and i went back to the car, my mirror was folded back words (mirror facing out). i thought to my self... fat lady couldn't squeez through the 2 cars after parking her SUV next to me. than i thought to myself, ...man folding mirrors would be cool by now. this is my story, this is my song

No, You can still force the mirrors to go forward or backward without worrying about stripping them.

I BELIEVE Nismo270r just used the USDM plastic triangle pieces, and the USDM glass in his JDM. That works too, I think. I wasn't present for the install. =)

i think its one of those things that you have to say "hey guys! watch this!"

kinda like the time i shot a potato gun at a brick wall point blank and a piece of potato hit my friend in the face.

you know its a bad idea when one of your friends says "Hey guys watch this!" just think about it

Here's the dillio...

I swapped the JDM mirror housing onto the USDM triangle piece. Reason for this is so the angle of the mirrors stays correct. If you notice, your passenger side mirror is a different angle than your driver's side. If you didn't do this, you would have a driver's side mirror with a JDM passenger side angle to it. I learned that the hard way.

I then swapped the USDM mirror glass onto them as well, because the JDM mirror glass is unmagnified on both the driver's and passenger side. I tried driving with it for awhile, but I was just too used to the way our driver's side more magnified than the passenger side.

Since the mirrors work on a clutch motor (like in model airplanes), you can still manually fold the mirrors in without damaging the motors.

I use mine everyday to get through a tight alley to get to where I park for work. You'd be surprised how much a difference that 4-5 inches sticking out can make when it's not there.

Here's the video:

Just right click and do a "Save As"

I have a set of the mirrors but no switch. I was wanting to wire it up into the alarm but I figured it would have to be wired in with relays that way they don't try to keep folding in one they are already in. Do you know what I'm saying? How did you get it to work? Thanks, Casey

yes but on the JDM cars there is an aditional switch which folds the whole of the mirrors in, not just the glass. watch the video.

somebody (im guessing in a big truck or SUV) hit my mirror and broke the fuk out of it, they also scratched the shiit out of my fender and left tire marks on my hubcaps, all this while it was parked outside my house. I guess they watched too many Monster Truck shows... I dig the idea of power folding mirrors.

How is the install wiring-wise? Is it plug in play or is there some major work?

I have some that I purchased on ebay. I am going to hook them up with my alarm so that when I arm it they will fold in and unfold when I disarm it. I am waiting to get them painted.

bringing this thread back up -

does the mirror glass just snap right off? should I just start pulling on them? feels like it's going to break.

the only good info in any thread is ones that have information posted by ME. :)

speaking of WHY the folding mirrors are awesome (and why I also own a set) is not because of the lazy factor, its the COURTESY of folding in your mirrors for others who walk near your car. Its not about being a gadget freak, even though innovation and technology is definately a part of japanese culture.

Its like walking into someone's house, take off your shoes as a courtesy to the person who's home you are entering. Some people say thats a JAPANESE thing, my parents are greek and have new carpet -- they didnt want my animal friends dirtying it up........ courtesy. Its like opening a door for a girl......... courtesy. Its like putting on a condom before having sex...... courtesy (and smart). haha okay okay.. im getting to crazy.. i'll end this shit.

Basically, anyone who lives in a city with tight streets will understand the benefit to folding mirrors. I live off of Melrose in a very busy part of LA and you ALWAYS see clipped mirrors on the floor because people are idiots out here.

i am pretty sure there are heated power folding mirrors. when i went to junkyards in japan, i looked through many sets of mirrors for the s13 and some have two extra wires. so i asked the guy and he said the ones with 2 extra wires are heated.

so i think they do exist.

Could it be a European option? The clip that I completely stripped was a fully loaded 180SX, it had every option available. I fully disassembled the entire wiring harness to bits and pieces, never found a trace of heater mirrors on it.
