I don't post on here nearly enough but I've been constantly thinking about a new project for my S13. I currently have the HUD setup. My HUD has been going out (works when its hot type of thing), and its made me wonder.....why do I need two digital speedometers that only appear to be 6 inches apart to the driver. What would it take to install an Analog Gauge Cluster (Needled Speedo and Needled Tacho) while still maintaining the dash HUD. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks

Could be done, but you'd need to splice part of the HUD cluster harness to the analog cluster harness, and still keep part of the HUD cluster internals within the dashboard behind the analog cluster.
I've thought of doing this in the past and it's a neat idea, but it's kinda more of a pain than it's really worth.

Its super easy, you can use both the HUD unit and the analog cluster, I have the jdm analog cluster (KPH) with HUD (MPH) I have to find the paper where I wrote it down and I will post it when I get home, I don’t have any pics though but its easy to figure out

I've done it, very easy. Just splice the two subharnesses together with all the required inputs/outputs, mount the HUD converter box behind the cluster somewhere, and put the analog cluster in.

Whats the HUD converter box?
And can I use a USDM analog cluster?

take your digital cluster out and remove the "digitial speed unit" u will see when u take out the cluster the HUD plugs directly into it, i just zip-tied to my dash bar in up in the cornor out of the way.
you can use JDM or USDM analog cluster

Got any pics of your conversion?
So its pretty straight forward eh?
Check out the pic.
Is that the HUD converter box? Can you unscrew it from the cluster or do you have to cut it off in some way?

i think they are talking about the hud thats the actual display on the winshield.. so the part that can unplug. i have thought about this.but never seen it.
so please someone post pictures!!
and what wires need to be spliced

No. Why would anyone talk about a piece that already exists on the dash?
Pull your HUD cluster, look at it. There's a big box on the back that the subharness plugs into. Remove it. Stash it somewhere behind the cluster. Wire subharnesses together. Install analog cluster. Drive car.
It's not brain surgery guys.

i suddenly want a hud. it didn't look appealing with the digital speedo in the cluster... although, the centered tach is pretty sweet.

so your hud has to already work right?

yea thats its, all you do is completly dissamble teh cluster and that will come out as a unit, i currently dont have any pics, but i can tell you that when take it out compare the harness for the hud cluster and the analog cluster and you will be able to tell which ones you will need to change/add
on the digi cluster harness you will have to remove some pins and put them in the analog cluster haness (where it plugs into the main harness)
best think to do is take all the wrapping off of the digi harness and lay it all out, then once you take out the "converter" (unit in pic) there will be one plug that goes into it, thats all you need, remove that plug and all wires to it form the other plugs IIRC its a black, and there are only a total of 10 wires involved

Awesome, I think I can get it from here. I'll open it up and see whats up. Off the top of your head, does the wiring colors match up to each other?
