ok so long story short ran out of gas completely, filled it back up ran fine for 2 days. on the way home it started acting like it was losing power like if one of the fuel injectors leads had come loose. I get home I check all the injectors and plugs everything seems to be firing correctly. I replaced the fuel filter today and still a no go. It sounds like the pump is priming but could it be clogged with a bunch of sediment from inside the tank? and if so does that mean I should replace it?

find out if its clogged.

Take the fuel line off after the filter in the engine bay. put it into a old water bottle, and crank the engine over.

fuel should come out, and not like a couple drops.

if no, try it at the line that comes out of the fuel pump.

i really duobt its actually clogged. but anythings posable with a 20 year old car.

just be really safe and smart working with gas.

yea be safe with gas...

I have had a few customers come in to buy new fuel pumps for their cars and they explained how they run out of gas and then all of the sudden a day or two later they stop working. Gas in the Gas Tank helps keep the fuel pump cool. If no gas.. it might overheat.

but with these people the car just died completely and didnt bother turning on. if you are facing a studering problem it could be something else.. So check the in tank filter as well and the lines make sure that it looks liek a decent amount of preasure is flowing. If it all looks good it could be something coincidental..

good luck none the less.. :)

mostlikely your fuel pump burned out... when you run low amounts of gas or no gas you put alot of strain on the fuel sending unit and sometimes become damaged or stop working altogether.

Fuel pump is dead.

Pinch the fuel "IN" line and have someone crank the car. The fuel line should be getting pressurized at this point. If it's not your fuel pump is probably dead. That or you have fuel line leak (doubtful).

Good Luck!

just be really safe and smart working with gas.

cause that's like failing an open book test. you have a gauge...a warning light and a needle along with a big E.

can you hear the stock fuel pump when you turn on the accessories? cause i know the walbro is loud as fuck.

i know alot of guys with broken needles. Mine comes from the baffle comong undone and moving itself under the fuel pick up.

But i was just making sure that this dude isnt gonna be smoking a cigarette while pumping gas into a water bottle.
seems self explanatory, but it doesnt hurt to make sure. People start working fast, think there onto the issue and forget common sense :)

hahaha no I am not going to smoke while working with gas, or have a spark plug hanging out next to the fuel line. hahaha but I wouldn't put it past some of these kids.

So I tried pinching the fuel line and got nothing, so I guess I will upgrade to a walbro at the end of this month.

It should take about 5 mins to take the fuel pump out and actually test it.First thing is MAKE SURE you have gas, sending units do fuck up. Pulling the line in different areas and checking is a good start but then if your not sure just pull damn thing out.

i had a similar problem noticing my car suddenly was out of gas after i just put some in...but i noticed that it was my gas lines. A couple of my clamps had actually busted and the gas lines toward the rear of the car wasnt even attached anymore! How could the clamps have broken, i know theyre little and maybe not the strongest but i put new ones on a re-attached, and again they broke another time. The fuel lines seemed to be fine, but maybe i just need to replace them all?
