My egay KADE intake fits like ass, and looks to be alot smaller ID wise than the OEM intake hose.
Im using an AEM dryflo filter. Does an after market intake pipe even do anything power wise? looks like 2.5"id is way to small for a 2.4

I've found the stock plastic piping works decent. Unlike a gaudy chromed metal tube that gets hot like metal does, plastic tends to keep a little cooler.
Keep the cone, ditch the metal, use the plastic tube.

why thank you, the only reason I bought the intake was because I thought the lack of ribs on the pipe would help velocities.
I will purchase some new hoses, and slap the nice fitting OEM intake back on.

Yeah it'll help that way a little, but not too much... a good free flowing air filter is about as good as you can do...
Of course if you want to get OG about it, get some PVC piping and make your own!!! lol jk. Theyres ghetto-functional, and then theres just ghetto.
If you really want something useful, get another stock plastic tube, and use that to make yourself a custom fiberglass intake tube. Then wrap it with header wrap and you'll have yourself a real cold air intake.

"The power is in the pipe", guys.
Sport Compact Car dyno'd the stock intake tube with a cone filter...and gained basically nothing.
(This was on their Project 240SX, YEARS ago...before the flat black "Silvia")
Swapped to a Injen tube, and picked up 5rwhp (peak).
The quote, from that article...was "the power is in the pipe".
...and 2.5" is 63mm...and your throttle body is only 60mm...so your fine there. Although a short-ram 3" has shown gains over your typical Injen/AEM/eBay setup.
Here's the intake dyno:

Food for thought.

if you going to keep it na for a good amount of time..
1) buy well built intake, injen, aem, etc
2. powdercoat it black. Black powdercoat is the best way to get rid of radiant heat warming up the intake charge (well besides covering it in gold foil)
nice, shiny intake pipes, actually are worse off. Granted they look nice, but they actually hurt the intake charge. and remember, colder the air, the denser it is...the denser it is, the more you can shove in the engine.
EDIT: WOOT 2,000 POSTS!!

Decent power for just intake pipeing.

K&N dyno tested their typhoon intake system and gained 10HP. I have one on my daily because it came with it and not only is it CARB legal but it did ad power like they claimed.
I should add it was not out when SCC did the test with the Injen.

fantastic, the pipe is already black, but non powdercoated.
For somereason however the ID of the pipe seems way smaller than the ID of the Throttle body. I needed a reducer on the intake side.
sure that power gain could be realistic, but my situation the intake probably robs more power because its hitting the TB at an angle. Might have to chop portions to get thigns flush.

Airflow isn't an issue as long as the pipe is smooth on the inside. The transition into the throttle body isn't enough to create turbulence unless there's a huge ridge on the edge of the pipe.
The best thing other than coating the pipe is to build a shield around the filter, a piece of sheetmetal and some tin snips will make something usable in about 5 minutes.

That's interesting. I've been running an Apexi cone, but I never cared to replace the pipe, I might do that. The Ebay/Injen ones all look the same, I'll probably just use one of those.
