i have a 92' 240sx w/ a '93 ka24de, recently when i went down to santa monica pier, my belts started to squeak and make noise, is this a sign? do i need it checked asap? do i need a tuneup? i noticed that my idle goes lower than 700 rpm when this happens. its not a normal occurence but it bothers me cuz it makes loud noise. i noticed it happens mostly when the engine is run cold. is it because the belts are loose? or cold? before this happened i ran my car till 4700 rpm then slowed to 3150 rpm in 5th. on the freeway.( i like to drive fast) is it because the high rpms distorted or loosened the belts? its something thats in my mind daily is it normal? anyway, friday- today im getting a stillen cold air intake, should i get my car tuned as well? how much rwhp gain should i expect? how much would u pay for it?

You don't neccesarily need to change them, they could be just loose.
Check all 3 belts (or 2 if you don't have A/C) and see if they are loose.
The Crank-Waterpump belt is easy to tighten as it has a tensioner that you just regulate with a bolt. But the Crank-Alternator belt is a bitch to tighten because it's hard to get to the alternator. I had to take off my intake to get to it. As for the A/C belt, I'm not sure on difficultly, as I don't have A/C in my car.

today i didnt notice any belt noise, today i installed my stillen intake. i expected more because it didint come w/ the piping, although i paied good money for it im going to adapt an injen cold air piping w/ my stillen intake. that should work. now i got stillen power

the squealing sound that your hearing could be your alternator. its happened to me before. check to see if one of the bolts that helps mount it to your engine is loose. in my case you would here it the squeals after long drives and or high revs over 5000

Belts squeak and RPMs drop when the belts are overtightened. The reason why it happens in cold weather more then warm is b/c rubber contracts in cold. Loosen your adjusting bolts a little. You'll know when they're tight enough by pressing down on the center of the belt over a 7" surface of it, the belt should go down only about 1/4" from it's original position.
