In a balance of karma for the cheap crap people buy (http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?s=&threadid=20972) thread, I've decide to make one devoted to parts, ideas, DIY stuff that while inexpensive has proven itself to be a worthwhile investment.

An idea are things like Kuhmo tires, while not the BEST out there, they do hold their own with a field of tires that are often twice as expensive. While not as good, they are consitant and never far behind. Also in tires, many have praised the falken azenis for their astounding grip for so little money though I can't say firsthand.

Personally I think the H4 conversion from Don (PDM-racing) is a pretty good as well. While not as killer as some HID setups, at only $65 it is a big improvemt over the seal bulbs we're given stock.

I also like my rota subzero's a lot too. They're pretty light, stylish and very inexpensive (a unique combination, the K1's do this too) at $500 shipped. The trade off is low offsets (+40mm) and a relatively narrow (at 7") wheel. The only reason I may be getting rid of them this spring is they won't clear the Z brakes without a spacer. Otherwise I love them.

The Kosei K1 and Enkei RP01 were both great wheels for the 4-lug 240SX when available... At least in the case of the K1 (and I believe the RP01 also) they had proper offsets (i.e. less than +40). The RP01 was sort of narrow at 16x7" but that's still plenty for a 225/50-16.

Ground Control coilover kits. Matched with a good adjustable strut like the KYB AGX you get way more than enough adjustment for the typical DIYer.. all for a couple hundred less than the cost, total, of an entry level coilover kit like the Tein HA.

DIY intake tubing. Exhaust pipe elbows and pieces of truck radiator hose will function just as well as an Injen or AEM if you don't care what it looks like.

I really like the airdam on Alex Chang's car. It's just a piece of black rubbery stuff attached to the lower edge of the bumper. I plan on replicating this on my car... since stock '89-'90 airdams are expensive and hard to find without cracks.

1. Cheap strut bars. Yeah racing people on here will disagree, but for an average driver $25 bux for a shipped strut bar will do.

2. Intake tubing like akadriver said. Except i was gonna mention using plumbing stuff from home depot. For like $10 you'll get all the parts you'll need for the piping (my escort has a home depot CAI).

Greg Dupre subframe spacers (paid $60 for mine) or even better, a bunch of big washers from Home Depot (cost like $5). Really makes the car lauch and handle better.

370cc injectors on the stock ECU, modded MAF - $75 for a fuel system that theoretically handles a good 10psi (this is yet to be proven though, but works NA at least).

anything from www.mcmaster.com - you can make a crap load of stuff from the assorted industrial items sold there (my turbo's oil system for one. for another, a friend bought magnetic sheets and cut out his numbers for Solo II racing).

As for tires... up in the northeast... even cheap snow tires are better than all season tires in snow. It's something like the phrase "something is better than nothing."

obx shortshifter , it might not be the shortest shifter but for the price it worth every penny and it works pretty well too...
