My friend and I are getting into a pretty heated argument about KA's trannys. Ive searched the forum and cant seem to find anyone talking about it. What do people think about it? Can it handle well over 200K or will it put out with the motor? Could a KA tranny with 180K take on with a new motor swap with only 40K and still keep up?

i dunno.............that's a ****load of miles. it entirely depends on the treatment of the car previous to this time. it's possible that it could take it. but i'd say it's more likely that it's on its last legs.

The trannys are very strong but the syncros seem to have long term issues. Not sure if it the syncros themselves or some type of bearing that is at fault but grinding and not being able to shift into a gear while moving are common problems.

Man... Just drop the tranny when you do your clutch swap (which you should when you swap engines... cuz 180,xxx is a ton of miles) and then rebuild it. Synchros are cheap from Nissan, and all you'd need is an FSM.
