I came across a pretty good deal on some 50mm overfenders.... and I am wondering...
s13 hatch
50mm overfenders
30mm spacer
8" wide, 0 offset wheels
here is my mode of thinking:
stock wheels are +40mm offset or so. with the 30mm spacers, the wheels look flush on the stock body.
the 8" wide wheels are 1.5" wider than stock, so about 20mm? and the zero offset, that is another +40mm to the body.
so:
body -30mm
spacer + 30mm
overfender - 50mm
offset difference +40mm
wheel size difference +20mm
= total +10mm
you guys think my math is right and that it would look ok?
they're 15 x 8. the wide, but 15" rims and wide bodies remind me of my time in osaka.

it wouldnt look ok.
it would look really nasty
overfenders look good with wide wheels like...11" or better, no matter how flush it is or how many spacers you throw at it

First question. Although you can calculate your wheels and offset correctly, the wildcard will be the fenders themselves. Although they're listed as 50mm, as with aftermarket FRP parts, it will be hit or miss. The fitment of the fenders will depend on the installer.
So you can have the correct wheel size and everything, but the fenders may be off a little bit and that will throw everything out the window.
My advice? At least test fit the fenders. Measure and calculate what your wheel fitment should be and talk to vendor/manufacturer
Second question cannot be answered by anyone but you.

thanks... I'll go ahead and get them and when my bushings are finished being replaced, I'll throw them on and see how they look. if it's stupid, I'll just resell. you guys kept me from just throwing them on there too soon.

Dude! Im rocking 18x12 + 9 offset in the rear and i even cant take full advantage of the 50mm rear fenders. If you must get over fenders get 30mm

Trust me bud! You dont want your car looking goofey. I would save for some aggressive sized wheels before getting over fenders

and before I want to get some aggressively sized wheels, I want to get more power and before I get more power, I need more money, and before I get more money, I have to hurry the fuck up and graduate pharm school already...

I'm confused, are you trying to run a 15x8 +/- 0 and 50mm overfenders, or are you trying to run 15x8 +/- 0 with a 30mm spacer also?
Because there is no need for overfenders if you are going with the first option.
Why even get 50mm over fenders? Ridiculous.
There's no point.

what about 30mm fenders on a 18x10 +18 wheel?

Cosmetics aside, the purpose of wide fenders is to make your car street and/or race legal. You can't have anything stick out past the body panel.
The best fender size is one that barely clears your wheels. You don't need any more fenders than that because it's just extra weight and it makes your frontal profile bigger = more drag.
Most people do it backward and choose wheels to fill out their fenders. This is purely for cosmetics. I won't get into wheel size but the idea is to choose the smallest diameter possible to clear the brakes and put down as much width as you're comfortable.
The fenders should be an afterthought. Just put on as little as possible, if necessary. Primacy should be given to the wheel size.
what about 30mm fenders on a 18x10 +18 wheel?
The more important question is did you cut your fenders? If no, then all of your questions are moot, i.e. you don't need wide fenders if you didn't cut the metal fenders.

would have been 15x8 wheels, 0 offset, INCLUDING the 30mm spacer.
but I realized if I just rocked stock body, despite the dents, and sold the spacers, it would be a net profit I could spend on something else. woooomp

If your fenders don't look like this, you don't need overfenders.
Are yours at least cut somewhat?

I actually really like your explanation of offset. It's explained well enough that even an idiot (possibly me sometimes) can understand how it works. +1

50mil overs w/ 18x12+0
http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/ll110/samaniego_ms/awfset.jpg
these wheels are 4 inches wider, two inches on each side. so a 15x8+0 w/ a 30mil spacer = 15x8-30
but, a 30mil spacer = 1.18 inches. so your wheels will be (2-1.18= .82inches)= 20.83mil more sunk. so to get this flush, you will need a 50.83mil spacer.
but not so wide wheels spaced way out looks funny.

Stop putting wide fenders on cars with less 10" wide wheels. You can fit 10" wide wheels with proper offsets under STOCK fenders with roll and a SLIGHT pull and only a few degrees of negative camber. Stop wasting fiberglass on the back of your damn cars!
It's all personal preference, I know. It just never made sense to me to widen the back of your car just to run skinny wheels pushed further out. I understand the wider footprint concept and everything else. I just think if your going to go wide, fill it and use it.

how far do you want to push? you could consider new wheels or forget the overfender

ThatGuy and I are getting at the same thing from 2 different angles. The bottom line is if you don't need that much fender, don't put it on. Simple.
People forget where the flushed look came from. "Race" cars run big wheels and need to widen the bodywork to be flushed. The bodywork is widened to the wheel, not the other way around.
Somehow people misunderstood and started running widebody with no real need, i.e. <10" wheel. Then they started running spacers for cosmetics reasons.
"Tune" the suspension and wheel first. THEN apply the widebody if necessary. Not the other way around.

50mm overfenders is just plain stupid to run with wheels that are only 8" wide. To make that look good you would need AT LEAST 10" wide wheels and AT LEAST 255 width tires. I personally wouldn't run 50 mils with anything less that 12" wheels and 305+ width tires. To make 8"wheels flush you would need like -10 to -20 offset, but they would look dumb because the wheels are not wide enough.

wouldnt another reason to go 50mm over 30mm is that it covers more of the rear qtr incase u have dmgs there?

That would be a cosmetic reason, and not a functional reason.
